Other turbos with a T3 flange?

the hks lines are good turbos(imo) and the gt stands for ball bearing if you didn't already know for the hks'..
GT stands for Garrett Technology or it's used to describe the aerodynamically advanced Garrett turbochargers. The GT series turbos have 29 parts while the T has 54.

Right now we are developing a Race kit for the Protege. We are using a modified GT30R.The GT30R is sized almost perfect for a modified FS-DE motor.
If you do not have a built bottom end,Cams and a ported head the GT30R is alittle to big.
Right now we are having a special on turbo's and the GT30R is $1150 until May 1st..

check this site out, it has pics and dimensions of turbo flanges. I got my turbo gear there for my Corolla.
Great site. . .that helped a ton to clear up some questions I had. Obviously the spool turbo was the standard Ford setup (thought so, but wasn't sure).

Not too many posts there BigTymer2k3, but a great one in my opinion.

MAM, anything smaller that you might offer? I don't know that I'm going to build up my engine at this point. I was actually trying to make it through to the end of summer without touching the engine (out of necessity) and that didn't work. So, I'm at the point that I'll give this one more shot and then I'm going to set the car on fire and claime it was struck by lightening (or maybe I'll just set the turbo stuff on fire. . .since it isn't really the cars fault).

In our standard turbo kit we use a GT28R.The GT28R out does a standard T3.
We are in full boost at 2700-2800RPMs and it pulls hard all the way until we shift(6000RPM).
The GT28R uses a T2 size exhaust.Since you already have a T3 and are planning on building a motor, the GT30R would be a good choice.Keep inmind you will have to make/modify your exsisting turbokit. The inlet is 4" and the discharge is 2.5".The turbo is about 2" in length(compressor cover to hotside) shorter than a T3.If you don't want to do this, you can go with a GTR T3/T4.

Thanks,
Beau

Damn me and my poor communication skills. . .I will not be building this engine unless I can make it at least a few months without any problems (I understand what I've gotten into, but it doesn't have to be this bad). At this point, I have no desire to put any more money into it than I have to. I'm going to give this one last chance. . .if whatever I buy doesn't work for me, then the MP3T is no more. Right now, I don't want to even think about more boost or forged internals and so on (yes I'm getting bitter). :D

I have been thinking of changinmg my turbo too. When i get my lower compression pistons, i feel lag will own me. I feel if im gonna do it, i basically need a new turbo kit, due to the inlet outlet and flange sizes.

i know when i bought my kit, i had the option to upgrade my turbo to a ceramic ball bearing but it cost around 500$. You might be able to upgrade your existing turbo.

Dude, its not gonna happen. Just sell me your kit for cheap. I'll let you drive it once in awhile...

Seriously though, what problems have you had? It seems to me people have a lot of problems with turbo MP3s because they always want more out of it. Am I insane for thinking that once I turbo, add a clutch, and run 6-7psi, I'll be happy? Because the MP3 is already fun. It just needs a little more umph.

Chris

Chris, I think you can do that and be happy. There is certainly a desire to push it upwards, but the thought of punching a hole in the engine is usually enough to keep that "boost knob" in check.

My turbo problem is that I've just had a "bad" turbo from day one. It has always leaked oil and it just has gotten progressively worse. It was rebuilt not long after I bought it and now it needs to be rebuilt again (maybe it is my fault this time, but the first time it was not my fault). I'm still researching and talking to a lot of people, but the car went from near perfect, to a pain in the butt again. Still runs great, but is really pissing me off (I think that shows). I just don't "trust" this turbo, hence the reason I want something else.

Paul, I've heard bad things about the ceramic ball bearing turbos (no experience with them myself, just grapevine stuff from DSMers).

I REALLY hope you get this worked out to your satisfaction. I want you to be happy again. I would like to see your car sometime BEFORE you set it on fire.

I need to see pictures of the Hiboost manifold and turbo. . .anyone? Installed would help (I've see the parts just lying on the ground already).

What options do we have for ball bearing turbos with a T3 flange. . .I'm looking to upgrade my turbo (after driving a few ball bearing turbos), mine lags too much!

I appreciate the help.
Here is a stock MSP and little larger one for a upcoming project car. This will fit your flange.

Thanks again

What is the size comparison between the GT30R and a regular T3? It looks big (and thus makes me worry about it fitting without hitting the radiator.

I wanna upgrade to a Ball Bearing Setup. But you need to understand fast spool up isn't alwayz that good..b/c once i hit full boost in 1st gear..the tires start spinnin!

From there..it's all good..b/c boost just keeps building up!

If i was to spool up sooner..traction would suck in 1st & 2nd gear!

need to rework more then just the radiator. It is for a 500hp car anyway.

Thanks again

How many people would hate to have that problem? To much power.

The Ford T-3 is good for about 280 hp max. The GT30R in the photo is trimed for 500max. Should send it UPS ground or Red? The GT28r or the GT28RS is a very good setup for a built Protege.

Thanks again
