Eibach Sportline vs. Eibach Pro Kit on MSP - Which is Best?

Okay,

I have spent a good amount of time searching/reading/searching/reading on springs for the Mazdaspeed and find myself totally confused.

What I want: To improve the handling of the mazdaspeed with a drop. If it doesn't improve handling it's not gonna happen.

Concerns: don't want to rub with a full car, I have stereo equipment in the trunk which I estimate to weigh 75-125 lbs (only a guess)

I don't plan on upgrading the factory struts right away, but an upgrade to those or an upgrade to real coilovers could be in the future after the stock struts wear.

Rims will stick with the stock rim size/tires.

So far I have read lots of conflicting information about what is really the best fit for the Mazdaspeed springwise, Sportline or Pro Kit. Which one is going to offer the best performance over stock?

Any others? I'll be ordering from here: http://www.apexr1.com/maprsu.html

Thanks for your help!

have you considered Goldlines?? They are identical to the sportlines. The first set of springs i put on my P5 were the eibach pro-kit springs. Had them on for about a week then took them off. The front drop was hardly noticeable but the back was ok. Just not near enough drop for me. I have since gone with the Goldlines and what a nice spring. Very good drop and ride is nice. For $150 shipped you can't beat it. Good luck(2thumbs)

Have thought about it, but I need to stick with Apex Motorsports as a vendor so I am limited to choices on that page.

I am not sure if the stock MSP Mazdaspeed/Tokico struts are the same valving as Tokico HPs. Base from my experience w/ the P5 the Tokico Hps and Eibach prokits springs are very nice combo. handling is just"wow" unbelievable. But again, this coming from a "stock" P5 susp to Tokico/Eibach prokit combo. If im not wrong, the RB springs are stiffer than Eibach prokit ( 28% from stock vs 20% for Eibachs) so i would think the Stock Mazdaspeed should handle a little better.

Nice ride you have slamdp5.

Bump... Anymore input from Mazdaspeed folks/Suspension Gurus?

I think if you want better performance I would go with the pro kit because they are performance springs. The eibach sportlines are suppose to be more for looks.

that's what I had assumed, but nowhere have I been able to find the spring rates for the sportline... but you guys are confirming my hunch thus far. I guess the second question is, will the pro-kit be an upgrade in handling for the msp?

from that i would assume that yes handling would improve based on the spring rates at the high end of the progression, but as they are progressive springs they will have different handling characteristics.

I have an MSP with the Pro Kit. Handling is better, but not drastically. I had 4 BIG guys in my car (average weight ~250#) and drove around downtown Chicago (including a parking garage) and had NO rubbing. Just my 2 cents for ya.

yeah, I have seen that chart and searched and read and searched and read, but no real concrete opinions from folks.... Too bad I don't know that much about suspension.

The other thing that had me curious is that chart is missing spring rate information for the sportline. But it looks like the consensus choice is the pro-kit.

Pro-Kit= Performance: Lower center of gravity and a progressive spring rate that becomes stiffer than the Racing Beats. Daily driving will be smoother, but performance will be improved as well.

Sportlines= Appearance: Spring rates most likely will not be near the Racing Beats, but will be stiffer than the factory P5/Sedan springs. You'll have a lower center of gravity but the handling will suffer.

I haven't been able to find the spring rates for the Sportlines, and I'm too lazy to call; maybe one day I'll do it. Eibach does not market them as "race" springs, thus they do not match the performance of the Pro-Kit.

Cool, thanks for clarifying!

you really are a great resource to this community.

I'll be getting the pro-kits for now, and will eventually go with Illumina struts or possibly a true coilover system.

Thanks!

not a problem, I help when I can. you're doing all the mods I want to do on my MSP when I buy one, so I'm following your progress closely (esp w/ the radiator) (rockon)
