Muffler for 3" custom exhaust

I live up in MD and I don't have a SS exhaust. No rust here, just a little on the welds, but nothing a little high temp paint can't take care of. Here's a pic of it, it should last.

my setup looks a lot like yours, I'm using an aluminized 3" turbo back, 3" ss flex, carsound cat and a magnaflow 3in and 3out muffler, it's a straight through design and looks like yours. I hope it sounds good, nothing is installed yet.

and little beavis, god damn man.. that car sounds AMAZING, I'm gonna be doing a 3in magnaflow + type s also, but its a different motor, so I hope it sounds half as good!

Joel,

Here is mine. it is a 3" inlet but andy tappered it down to 2.5"

It is the JIC bullet canister. It is a straight through design. basically a big resonator. I love the sound, but i needed a high flow resonator if i ran it with out the silencer.

i have the hks axle back which i think has either a 2" or 2.25" inlet....how big can I go with the piping to the down pipe? the hiboost downpipe i got is 2.5", can this muffler take 2.5" piping?

you might wanna think about changing out the piping on the hks cause it's only 55mm (2.16") piping. that'll be a bottleneck in your exhaust system. you'll probably be better off with 2.5" piping all the way through. the muffler should be able to handle it, so long as the inlet is larger than 55mm.

yeah I figured I was going to have the piping from the HKS cut off for the new piping, does anyone know how big the inlet hole into the HKS is?

Paul,

I'll be running up to Andy's shop on the 24th of April. We'll install the new catback system, do some fine tuning, and install a new flywheel (i have the defective flywheel [was already chattering before turbo] but mazda won't replace it). See if you can make it and we can do some runs (you probably will be faster with all those extra mods you've got ;) )

they should be able to reduce the end of the piping to fit the inlet of the muffler no problem. on mine, the shop welded 3" piping up to the stock piping just after the second cat.
