New Mazdaspeed Info

06' 3 Touring
I read an article in Car and Driver yesterday that confirmed the prodution of the Mazdaspeed 6 and 3. Not that we already didn't know that but they did say that there will be 280 hp and AWD. I think that C&D is a pretty reputable source.

Just to clarify: That 280 hp and AWD was for the 6. I don't believe there were any sort of specs. for a 3

most of the time when a magazine puts out information like that, it's merely PR talk and speculation. if you want real hard info and facts, wait for them to get some kind of pictures and real numbers. also like turbonium said, they might not even come to NA if they don't see a demand for these vehicles (they're not the same as WRXs and Evos, those started out in japan as performance cars, unlike the Mazda3 and 6)

That 280hp & AWD has been around FOREVER...those were the specs for the 626 MPS, which they developed years ago. Then they came out with the Mazdaspeed 6 concept like a year or more ago & basically made it the same car with the updated look of the 6. I am still confident that the only 2 Mazdaspeeds we are getting are the MSP & the MSM.

The Mazdaspeed RX8 is just a suspension package, aero kit, & some other stuff, not an actual different car. The stuff is for sale in Japan & can be imported to the US.

The 3 won't come anytime soon, but it might come out in a few years. The MSP wasn't released until the final year of the Protege. VW did the same thing as Mazda did with the MP3 & the MSP...337 in 02, 20th Anniversary in 03, R32 in 04 (last year of the MkIVs). Mazdaspeed definately isn't the tuner it should be (like Mopar or Nismo), so unless MazdaUSA shapes up its act, I don't think we'll see anymore Mazdaspeeds unless you folks get lucky & they design an MS3 for the final year of production (whenever that is).

Actually, look for a Mazdaspeed car for each make. Its a reality gentlemen.

The Mazdaspeed RX8 will be supercharged.

The Mazdaspeed 3, don't know to much about.

The Mazdaspeed 6 will be much like the MPS concept.

Thats a good thing, but its sad that we dont know any detail about the release time of each especially for the Speed3 !!! Im currently in the market for a Speed and I would be pissed off if I end up buying one and find out that Mazda is going to release the Speed3 in 2005(bang) !!!

binary, if you have some type of hard proof for this "reality," please -- share it with us.

if there is a Speed 3, don't count on seeing it until 3 sales start dropping off.

there was a shot and a blurb on the mazdaspeed 6 in this month's C&D. i saw 280hp, but no mention of AWD. and IIRC, it was a wagon.

I wish I could post some info. Confidentiality clause and all. You'll see more. They're talking about releasing 2 Mazdaspeed models a year.

Also look for 5 brand new models within the next 5 years.

The reality is that none of you read the whole blurb in Car & Driver, which is actually quite important.

BinaryRotary: Yes they are making Mazdaspeed versions of all of them, but if you read the article, they aren't coming to the US. I HIGHLY doubt they will supercharge the RX8 since Mazda has been turbocharging cars for years now, but name one Mazda that was supercharged. I honestly believe you made the same mistake that the people who 1/2 read this blurb did...you heard something, but missed the important details.

Again, 2/year is doubtful unless it's in Japan. The most they would ever release here is 1/year...just look at every other manufacturer, it's the same for all of them.

One of those 5 models is the Mazda MX Micro:

<!--en-->Mazda Motor Corporation announces the release of a limited edition RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version, which is based on the RX-8 and fitted with Mazdaspeed* brand tune-up parts for enhanced sports driving performance. The RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version goes on sale from the middle of February at Mazda Anfini and Mazda dealerships throughout Japan.

The new RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version is based on the RX-8 Type S. Mazda has tuned up the engine using it's exclusively designed PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to match the modified intake and exhaust systems of the Mazdaspeed Version, as well as going through balance adjustments around the eccentric shaft in response to the lightweight flywheel. Mazda has also tuned up the suspension and fitted aero parts to further enhance sports driving performance. Those modifications, carried out under Mazda's strict quality control system, provide the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version with well-balanced performance.

In addition, the RENESIS rotary engine has been further improved to deliver greater aerodynamic performance and even better sports car driving performance. Sharp, stable maneuverability is further enhanced while maintaining ride comfort, and the vehicle's exterior design supervised by the RX-8 chief designer expresses high performance.

The sales volume of the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version will be limited to 300 units. <!--eI2-->

And just for the hell of it, I will post all Mazdaspeed models that are available right now in Japan only. These are all limited edition models, and come with slightly different cosmetics and/or drivetrains than the stock models rolling off of Mazda's assembly lines.
RX-8 Mazdaspeed
Atenza Mazdaspeed (also comes as a wagon)
Exela Mazdaspeed
Demio Mazdaspeed
P.S. In Japan there is no Miata Mazdaspeed, it was just called Mazda Roadster Turbo.

The Mazda Millenia was supercharged. Hey you can say whatever you want, I work for them.

Don't be suprised when you see a full size Mazda SUV thats not based on any Ford product.

BUMP

IF there is proof that these vehicles are going to come to the states, please let me know!!! I would trade in my speed for a MSP6 or 3 in a heartbeat!
