XM Radio in P5

Hey Folks,

I am wondering if anyone here has put XM radio in their P5? My dealer says that I woudl need to get the glass mount. What I am wondering is has anybody done something a little more stealth with their XM antenna so it's not so visible on the outside of the car with their P5?. I will have Window tint, but from what I have read on other forums that shouldn't affect it, if there is indeed a place inside the car to mouth the antenna. Lastly what's your reception like?

Go for the XM. I have it and love it. Only reception problems are the ocasional tall building or stuff that blocks a sky view (overpass, tunnel, ATM drivethrough) I have the glass mount, but no tint yet, so I can't comment on its effects. It is mounted passenger side, rear mini window and is really visible. I wanted the installer to mount it on the hatch, but they didn't think it would work as well. Only other option is the little puck type, but it requires a wire run outside the car. I've heard of someone having the puck installed under/inside the bumper with no significant signal loss, but you may need a fairly adventurous installer.

I woud like to see what it looks like on the glass, from what I have gathered on the Pro5 you have to go with the puck style on the roof or the window mount on the rear mini window. My installer was pushing the window mount on the rear mini-window, they won't put anything on the hatch because it moves.

I used the puck style on the roof and ran the wires though area where the hatch wires go. I just had to file a little area around the hole to accommodate the wires, The wires are then run under the headliner over to the side of the car to the tuner. I will take pics later today to show you.

i got a low profile xm antenna from pioneer through best buy employee accomadation program, i put mine on top of my dash, it looks like a 4.5 inch pancake because it is really low profile, it is not even half an inch thick

wow, this is bringing up an old thread

I ended up going through a dealer for everything and they put the low profile puck style antenna on my dash on the right hand side. So far I have been really happy with it, the signal rarely cuts out and it's generally under an extended overpass. It's been very nice. There are pics on the page if you click on my www page.

For anyone else, if you want to go this route with an XM antenna you'll need an adventerous or smaller install shop. Circuit City, Best Buy, etc... won't install them inside the car because it is techinally against XM's guidelines.

Hey, yeah I haven't finished taking pics of things or developing my site so it's all a patchwork kind of thing right now, just taking photoshop and making auto galleries.
