What have you done to your MSP today?

I had a CEL come on during a drive after I had cleaned/oiled the K&N filter . Cleaned the MAF sensor and housing then put in a paper Wix filter and cleared the CEL on Saturday.

CEL came back on today and pulled a P0171 code on the Topdon diagnostic reader. Gonna have to take some time to chase this down...

I don't have extra time to work on this problem, so I took it to a local trusted independent shop and they're looking at the vacuum system. They need a layout/diagram for the turbo setup and used my VIN when calling around to Mazda dealerships who said my turbo setup was aftermarket!?! 🤬

Anyone know if there's an actual Mazda MSP diagram for our system?

~edit~ yes, I used the 'search' function and found: Turbo Diagram for those interested...

Still looking for more info though...

Welp, the shop conducted a smoke test and discovered a crack in the OEM plastic MAF to Turbo hose. Online research showed silly prices wanted for OEM 'duct' hoses and my setup was all OG so decided to go with hard pipes as I plan on keeping her for a long time and don't want to do this again if/when the other pipes develop any cracks as well.

Fresh oil change, had the valve cover replaced as well and test drives show the P0171code has been cleared and getting on the gas has a nice whistle and pull around +/- 4k !

I've always aimed to keep her as original and stock as possible with minimal mods but figured this would turn out nicely. Picture of the new setup attached for posterity :)

Nice! What did you use for the pipe to factory air box? I want to run the factory airbox but would like to ditch the plastic tubing

The shop used 16 Gauge 6061-T6 Aluminum, silicon connectors and T-clamps for my upgraded piping setup.

New amber LEDs and pod surround on the cluster and some carbon fiber pieces to round out the interior

Holy crap I haven't been on here in forever. Trying to find old links feels like it is almost impossible now. My son has purchased a MSP after I had one forever ago. Does anyone have a link for the complete wire harness/diagram. Trying to chase down some wiring gremlins and my knowledge on the car is more rusty than the first MSP that I owned. TIA

So I thought if the P5's could have one of these we could to. Hopefully there are enough people doing things to their MSP's to keep this going. Ill start.

I finally got tired of my ghetto looking dual gauge pod and spent the money on a full a-pillar (thanks ********** (first) ). I'm going to paint it whenever I can get hold of some of the Krylon #3551 Classic Gray and then put it in. Im pretty sure everybody will be able to tell which is the old and which is the new. I hope to have pics of it installed by the end of the week.
Its the finer details that make the difference, having a complete one piece looks much nicer,

Good to see a spicey MSP still rocking.

Picked up a 2.25" greddy midpipe for $15 off a junkyard msp. I wanted to get the muffler too, but the car was propped up on the muffler, so not much I could do- I am happy with the mazdaspeed muffler I have on the car now, so whatever. Also got 4 tokico blue struts that look good cosmetically but functionally dont seem to have much life left in them, I had never actually seen them in person since my msp came with coilovers already installed, they look pretty cool. Anyone know if there are any uses for these? Like is it even feasable to rebuild them or something. I figured they had some value considering the rears were specially modified for the msp

Replaced the turbo water elbow. Ngl the previous owner must have been pretty good at welding, because this is a custom made copper elbow. Still, I trust the new one more lol.

Got the remanufactured reinforced elbow from Castilleja Performance after I saw it in a fb group, 100% recommend since Crossover Auto doesn't make them anymore (i think).

(yes that's an ear plug, surprisingly good for temporarily blocking coolant lines)
