Finally solved flapping noise at high fan speed and eliminated musty mildew smell

Hi everyone,

I kept hearing a loud flapping and strange noise every time I had the fan at the highest speed, finally figured it out what it was,
stupid dried leaves that somehow got past the cabin filter and dropped into the rotary fan bowl (see pictures).
After I removed the leaves, the strange noise at high fan speed went away.

Also, finally got rid of that nasty musty mildew smell by cleaning out the AC evaporator coils by directly injecting the
KOOL-IT foam thru the rotary fan blades. I had to snake the small tube past the fan blades and towards the left
deep towards the driver's side where the AC unit is located. After the foam cleaner did it's job, I could see the dirty foam liquid
drip from underneath the car. See pictures below.

I had previously tried the Kool It instructions to insert the tube thru the car undercarriage AC drain, but that did not work,
the application of the foam thru the fan blades from inside worked much better.

I hope this helps anyone with the same issues,

thanks.

I haven't had the need to look at it yet on the CX-9 since it's only two months old, but on most cars, the blower motor & fan can be dropped relatively easy. That will usually give you plenty of access to the evaporator. Had to do this to a Grand Cherokee to clean the mildew from the evaporator and dig out the "compost" from the bottom of the housing.

Anyone has a how to guide and pictures to do this ? I smell mildew and also I'm hearing a flapping noise at high fan speed, it sounds like a leaf somehow got into the blower but I can't reach it, looks like I need to drop the blower to remove it. Thanks in advance
