I just purchased a '08 Grand Touring cx-9 which had an aftermarket roof ski cargo rack installed. I removed it because I do not need it. I noticed there are 3 sections on each side of the molding. Of course only 2 were being used. The 2 on each side that were being used has a black bracket which the screw tightens in for the roof rack. They protrude and stick out past the molding. If i buy the clips to cover them, they will not fit. I'm not sure what I can do to the brackets. On the other clip which isn't being used, the bracket is under the molding so the clips cover the bracket.
