Engine Gets Sluggish @ 3000 rpm's

^ I put in ARP bolt for the manifold and brand new bolts on the turbo. I'm still getting the hesitation through 3-4k everytime, UNLESS I'm WOT.

It's kind of pissing me off... but I'm hoping when I tune it here in the next couple weeks it'll fix. Here's to hoping.

All those mods and no fuel or timing management?

ARP studs here as well and very happy with them.

Deleted?? Did I do something wrong... or you deleted what you post because it was same as something posted previously?

I looked into the Engine Management Systems but...... I just don't have $600+ to spend on the car right now.. (sadbanana). Unless i've been looking at the wrong stuff from what you are suggesting. Also most EMS's I saw required you already have a Cold Air intake, Catback system, and other things first. I am making a long list of minor things I need to fix on the car right now (belts, "trunk clunking sound", etc.)

Ya sorry i misread your symtoms and realized my comment was incorrect...lol

Thats why I have this bad girl waiting to be installed :D

also i just had my timing belt and waterpump done.. is there a chance that may be an issure with the major power loss? maybe my timing is set wrong? what should it be at. only had the car 2 months...

Very nice and on par with the rest of your mods. Top notch protege I would love to see it some time.
Would that be considered a boost leak or just an exhaust leak?
Just an exhaust leak, boost leaks are on the intake side after the turbo so just the hot and cold pipes and intake mani.

better idea to go with some kind of ems like that or is a ssafc good enough for a guy like my with just a few little add ons? wanna get rid of this richness and am trying to figure out the best way

idk about the shaking but the rest sounds like a problem me and many others are having, check the bolts that connect the exhaust mani and turbo. that explains the loss of boost.

Thanks for the reply. I actually Tried doing that this weekend, but failed. Finished up working in the yard and had about an hour of light left so I went to it. However.... I do not have a wrench big enough to take the O2 sensor out. (sad2) So, i could not get the heat shield off. I loosened it up and tried to look, but i could not get a good look at where the turbo meets the exhaust mani. Is there a how to for removing the heat shield? Looked briefly but did not find one.

The O2 is a 7/8th inch wrench, once it's off the heatshield can come off in about a minute. Don't be intimidated by this car, it's super easy to work on.

I am really enjoying working on it and learning how to do a lot of things to it.... Now if i only were rich and could actually afford stuff for it!! (rolleyes) Sponsorship anyone??? :)

You can unplug the harness but may damage the clip since most of them are brittle. I put a slit into my heat shield to avoid that since it kept going on and off.

just so you know, i took my heatshield off without removing the o2

Ha. Dang... I tried doing that but after about 15-20 min I gave up in fear of breaking something.

what did you use to cut the slit?

I have seen some people who ride without the heatshield on their cars. Is it needed? I would imagine it is... but if i did not have to put it back on after taking it off i would not.

UPDTAE:

Got the heatshield removed and had a look. The nuts appeared to be on pretty tight. However.... I did find that i was missing a screw on the exhaust manifold. Only one was missing and the others were tight, but do you think i could be getting a leak there? I took some pics. first two are left and right of where the exhaust manifold meet the turbo, the last two are an up-close of the missing screw and one from farther back (showing more of the engine).

If the bolt is missing then its leaking. seafoam your engine and you will see it smoking. when you replace the bolt, expect another one to fall out shortly after.
