Post-Injen CAI Install Question...

First off, I just want to say hi to everyone here in this forum since I'm new here. Posted this in another forum with no luck, but maybe you people can help me out.

I just installed Injen CAI and it was fairly easy (took an hour or so being that I'm not a mechanic and never modded anything on a car before.) Now, I have a few questions about the install that I haven't been able to find answers to by doing a search:

1) I mounted the overflow resevoir like it said on the Protege5Online.com site suggested, but I'm wondering whether the hood rubs against the top of the resevoir lid seeing that it seems to be quite high up.

2) After installing the intake, I noticed that the aluminum piping closest to the throttle body is just touching part of the engine where this rubber pipe and plastic bracket sits. Is this normal? Will it ever wear down or break given that the intake moves a little? I shifted the rubber pipe over to the adjacent plastic bracket so that it's not directly under the intake pipe.

Thanks in advance for all your help! :D

dude......those pictures are micro! but yeah, it does sit like that. i have it positioned properly, but i was just wondering about where the intake is sitting cause it seems to touch this one part on the engine.

about the resevoir.....thanks!

P.S. you people answer questions a lot faster than the other forum.

picts

montegi mr7s......sweeeet.........are those 18's?? i was looking to get something like that, but wasn't sure whether it would rub cause the offset was just so......do you get any rubbing??

wheels

nope...no rubbing at all and yes they are the 18inch Motegi MR7s ... the wheel offsett is 45mm and i can get you the best deal on them . I can get tehm for just about $500 shipped . there is only one tire that can be used ... its the 215/35/18... i go the NItto NT 450 extremes

BTW, your throttle-side pipe should NOT be rubbing against the motor. The mount you drilled into the chassy is adjustable, sliding it over should fix the prob, you can also drill a new hole. Another solution to this (I did it just in case of extreme movement) is to put a black tie-wrap through one of the hose clamps on the underside of the CAI(cant see it 'less you look hard), and tie it to a point in the cavity that pulls it towards the driver's side. I did this in case I hit a bump, corner hard, etc and the piping moves towards the motor. No rub for me.

And welcome to the site, these folks are the best I've met.

I didn't drill anything into my chasis, all the parts fit into Mazda made holes from the stock intake. It's not rubbing against the motor, but it just seems really close to it and since the vibra-mount is on, the intake will jiggle a little and may possibly touch the plastic clip that's just under the first bend on the intake pipe closest to the trottle body.

Ah, you used one of the holes that the "brass" mount for the old air filter used. You can drill a new one that pulls it away. In the directions for install, it even tells you to do this. It's very simple, and with a small drill you could even do it without taking the intake apart.

i think that we're both talking about two separate things. the problem with the overflow resevoir which is on the brass bracket is okay cause i used raycer's idea of turning the cap, so now i don't really seem to hit the hood anymore.....might invert the reservoir on the bracket this weekend......we'll see.

what i'm talking about is the part of the bend that looks like it's resting, but isn't unless you jiggle it, on this one part of the engine where it has these two plastic retainer clips that are holding some tube.....

also, has anyone ever encounter the problem where the metal braces that keep the intake together become loose and have a potential to dislodge and fall off??

$500 for the pair, without tires?

whioch metal braces holding the intake together...the clamps? never had a problem with them... as for the origional problem, maybe your silicon 90 degree thing is backwards...mine was at first and yes, it was hitting something.

the metal braces i was referring to is the small clamps that hold the intake together. just thinking that with prolonged vibration it may eventually loosen itself.....

it's not part of the intake, it's where the intake is touching....so hard to explain without a picture.... :'( not sure which silicon 90 degree thing you're referring to, but if you're talking about the part attached to the throttle body, i have that properly installed...if you take a look at your intake and look at where the first bend on the metal pice of the intake is, look directly under it and you'll see the piece of metal w/ the plastic retainer clips and the black tube that i'm talking about....
