Are you talking about the snap ring that is in there? The Snap-Ring is grey in color if I remember correctly and it need to come out before you can remove the shifter assembly. Once the snap ring is out it's easy to take it apart. You need to get a snap ring pliers to remove it. YOu can't take the rubber boot off until it's all disasembled. Be careful not to rip that boot. There is also a very good how to for removing the shifter.
yeah i noticed that i forgot to take out the retaining ring lol i'm an idiot. i didnt even need the special tool. i just used a flathead screwdriver and worked fine. I had the directions but they didnt really say how to take it out or what it looked like. THanks again guys.
