I'm a long-time Mazda guy (four Miatas, one RX-8 and one RX-7, plus my dad's RX-2), who just bought an 02 Protege 5 for my daughter. It's black, with a slushbox (she doesn't like mannies ... yet). I'll post pix when we bring it home. We're buying it from my sister-in-law. It has about 90,000 miles and the body and interior are very clean. It has a new radiator. The wheels are polished OEMs. As far as I can tell it needs only a timing belt and some new tires. Plus smog. We're going to detail it soon. $2,500.

Anyway ...howdy.

welcome! the most fun car i have owned to date has been my 3rd gen protege. :D

Thanks, Nik! I think it's a great car for her. I'm almost jealous; my Miata is a 1992 and her P5 is so much newer. :D

Almost.

Welcome and don't be jealous your Miata is sweet. Congrats on the great price on the P5.

wlecome zonker92...i have a 02 turbo'd protege and just picked up a 04 mazdaspeed miata....your miata is beautiful!

Welcome and great price! I picked up my 03.5 Mazdaspeed Protege for $1500, has a blown motor. As many, I started off with an 01 Protege in 2001 and just got the wife an 07 MS3. Just always loved the Mazda......

Thanks, you guys! I really appreciate the warm welcome! I'm a mod on the Miata.net; please stop by if you can.

I picked up the P5 last night and it is really, seriously nice. It needs a smog certificate and a tuneup, but the paint and interior and body are great. I need to clean the engine bay, too.

The rear door locks don't operate with the left front door control; you need to operate them manually. I'm searching here now for some solution ...

cool. i regular miata.net because i want one BAD.

for the rear loack, they might just need some lubrication on the actuators? or maybe the connectors got a little corrosion. maybe just pop the door panels off and have a look. i cant imagine it would be that difficult of a fix, and you wouldnt be able to figure it out.

Thanks! I just found a thread on the actuators: Looks like they have a cheap plastic internal gear that breaks, then you need to buy a new actuator, for up to $90 each! I did find a thread where a guy is selling a pair of new ones. I might buy them, but I should probably try to confirm what's wrong, first.

welcome!!!! i love mazdas n i've been thru many cars i'd haveta say there awesome... i wana get a ms6 after i'm done with my sedan.. but anyways welcome!!

Thanks, Boosted! Man, I spent the weekend detailing the car and it is so clean! I just kinda wish it didn't have polished OEM rims. Maybe I'll try to trade someone for the regular finish.
