Idle

Here are the pics for the IAC, sorry if the explanation sucks.

Keep in mind you'll need :

21/32 socket
10mm socket
pliers
torque bit (#25)
extension
ratchet
philips screwdriver
possibly an impact driver (makes it a lot easier to come off the first time)
carb cleaner
clean cloth/Qtips

You'll have to move/remove the (red) bar that goes across your car (4-21/32) and 2 sensors to get at the IAC (3-10mm)

There is a hose connected to the IAC, its just antifreeze, not much comes out. You can either remove the whole IAC Valve or just the motor. There are 4 philips bolts to remove the whole thing or 2 torques to remove just the motor. When you remove the motor you'll see the tip is probably dirty just clean with some carb cleaner. There are 2 rubber gaskets you'll need.

I put the tester on the motor, this particular one will read from 7 -13 omes. 3 prong IAC's will read 20 and up.

Also, another common cause of idle issues on the Protege is a torn intake. Check out the accordion pipe from the air box to the throttle body and inspect it for any cracks. You can tape cracks temporarily, but ultimately the accordion pipe needs to be replaced.

I have a new short ram on there, thanks tho. I've had no issues since I cleaned the IAC, hopefully it stays that way.
