I am about to put my hand on a 2001/2 speedometer, white gauges.
I want to know what color is it at night, the dial and numbers appear to be black on white, are they turn red on white at night?.
If they do,there will be any benefit in changing the factory bulbs and swap for a high power red one?
Sorry if this questions don't make much sense but i am trying to learn myself here.
Good weekend everyone.

I assume you mean the gauges are from a 2001/2002 sedan, since the P5 was not made in 2001. As for the color, I'm pretty sure all the white gauges had red lighting - I think only the black gauges had green lighting.

slavrenz,thanks for your response.
Yes,the speedometer is from a 2001/02.
I wonder if i add a red light bulb will increase the red intensity of the speedometer(glare)

Where would you put it? I don't think there's much room to make the speedometer gauges brighter. The only mod I've heard of with these is using LED lights, but those usually make the gauges dimmer.

get the right LED bulbs, and the gauges will be much brighter. also, red LED bulbs will give a VERY intense red color to the gauges.

(yes, i have LED's in my gauges. and, yes, i even had red ones at one point)

njaremka,thanks for the advice.
Any chance you could post a pic of it??(eekdance)

here are some older ones with some white LEDs. you can definitely tell they are brighter than stock. you will also notice the orange color remains, as its part of the actual gauge face.

i dont have any from when i had the red LEDs.

Sorry, but other than the light coming out from the gauge needles, I don't notice a change in brightness.

What I was referring to earlier was the posts of others who have swapped their gauge lights with LEDs, and reported that they were dimmer. I've never done this myself tho :(

trust me, they are brighter than stock "_I_F_" you get the right LED bulbs. (and i stress the "IF")

the cluster takes 2 "194" bulbs, and 2 "74" bulbs. those pictures above were with these installed:

i dont think there is enough room inside the gauges for anything like that. its pretty tight in there.

I took apart my cluster on my Protege 5 and those bulbs don't look like the ones I replaced...? What year/model are these bulbs for....? The only place I could get replacement bulbs from was directly from Mazda.
