Mazda 2002 Protege 5
I have purchase my car about 4 years ago w/ injen intake already installed. This part seen in the pic was sandwiched between two intake pipes. It broke, and as you can see it is not symmetric. The red that you see is rubber flaps, that may letter extra air in I presyme through an outer foam covering seen in the last pic. I have looked everywhere I do not know what it is. I have just connected two pipes with a rubber pipe. Thanks for your help.

thats an AEM intake by-pass. its purpose is to prevent hydro-lock if the filter is ever submerged in water. you can probably just chuck it, and stick your intake back together without it.
