JDM Toyota Corolla gets 280HP V6

Posted on Thursday 2 August 2007

Toyota has released a hotted up version of the Japanese domestic market Blade hatch featuring a 3.5L V6 engine with 280hp (206kW) and 345Nm (254lb-ft) of torque. The Blade is sold in Europe as the Auris and in other markets as the Corolla, and it’s expected that these markets will also get the new V6 version, as we reported in an earlier story. To give you an idea of just how much power this is, Volkswagen’s Golf R32 hot hatch only gets a 250hp (184kW) powerplant.

The new model comes with a six speed manual as standard as well as a new six-speed automatic transmission with paddle-shifters. Other features include 16in brake discs with upgraded calipers, and 17in alloy wheels with 225mm tires. There’s no word on whether there will be any sports suspension changes or improvements to the chassis.

To differentiate the car further, designers have added a mild sports bodykit with unique badging at the tail end. Who said Toyota only made boring cars ?

Now there's a Corolla I might be willing to be seen driving! Isn't the "blade" the next gen one that's supposed to be coming here in 2009?

I must have missed your post mikey. Anyways, I got a chance to look at this vehicle up close. It's about the size of a Mazda5 (length wise). The particualr model I looked at was customized from the exterior. The interior was all made up in Suede. This car would sell in the States. Ill post pics when I get a chance.

Here are those pics I took. Notice the suade :D

280 hp in a Toyota "Fam" wagon...That's a lot!!! I'm quite surprised Toyota would pull a move like that...especially in Japan where their bread & butter models are quite conservative...Hmmm...Interesting...Too bad most of the "affordable" cars coming out today all sort of look the same to me...mounds of plastic and bubbly shapes...at least that powertrain is inspiring :D

On that page near the bottom look at the blade master or what ever the hell it is. It looks like a silver MS3, only smaller(uhm)
