40hp, 60mph, What MS3?

If we haven't come a long way in the realm of automobiles in the last 40-50 years, I'll eat my hat.

My car is in the shop for the motor mount recall. I drove my 64 Type 1 VW into work (Beetle for you non VW nerds)

1st gear tops out at a staggering 20mph. I think I can run 3rd to about 50mph. once into 4th, I have all the acceleration of a Vespa dragging an anchor.

All the while I managed about.....30mpg. 30mpg! My MS3 is withing 2mpg of that with 7 times the horsepower and twice the weight.

None of this is new info to me, I'z just sharing.

I remember pi diddles too! Holding your breath when going past cemeteries or over bridges, kissing your hand and slapping the ceiling when going through yellow lights. Any others I'm forgetting?

Born in Maryland raised in South Carolina Don't worry I was a very puny child (still puny now) and my sister would always get me worse (fight)

Think I messed up the over the bridge in my earlier post. You have to find a screw and touch it and lift your feet off the floor. We called it "screw with your feet up"

well to look at things in a different perspective......the new Z06's are putting down over 500hp and averaging around 20 around town and between 26-29mpg on the open road

it's a DP 1600 converted to 12V. While the OEM configuration would have been preferred, somethings like a 12V charging system and the availability of parts for the DP1600 outweighs year correctedness IMO.

otherwise, it's stock right down to the lapbelts.

yep dp1600 are great. and yeah a 12 volt conversion is a must. when i had my 66 was going ot do that. just well um bnever did. i had the stock sp1500 fo rit.

somethig about al old car that when restored can float. pop ytour ear drums closing the doors. and that didtictive sound modded or stock exasut!!

thanks! This is my 4th. My first two cars were type 1s and my wife's first car was the same. I've had scores of bugs, busses, and even a ghia. Never got most of them on the road, and some were parts cars....but I had a blast with them.

Love the smaller taillights of the older bugs. I had a '72 with cams, exhaust, and a four barrell and could manage the 65 mph speed limit, but man it made some noise when I slowly roared by. I pass by a lawn ornament everyday that looks like yours only rusty and wheel deep in weeds.
