Protege ES 2.0
Hey i'm new to the forum and new to tuning cars. I got a Mazda Protege ES 2.0 and want to put a SRI on it for starters. Just wondering what you guys are running for SRI's and what are cheaps ones but still good. I dont wanna spend anymore than $300 on one so what do you guys think. I found one on Protege Garage and its a AEM but someone left a review saying it onyl fits 1.8L is that true now? Here is the link to it. http://mazda3online.web.aplus.net/product_info.php?cPath=21_31_45&products_id=81

all i can tell you is i built mine off ebay and i think its just as good as an AEM or anything else and i olny spent $70 on it with shipping

just get on ebay motors and type in protege then the year you have and i always click on the bye it now icon then have it sort by lowest first and the air intakes are in the $25-45 range here's some

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BOMZ...103658943QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
but i would say go and get an K&N filter for it
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-0...099741984QQcategoryZ38634QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and the way i went from SRI to CAI was i searched for inter cooler pipes and bought a 15" pipe and an elbow and cut the pipe to fit you need to move your washer fluid reservoir 90 degrees to make room for the CAI good luck
and thanks for the complement

you can also just throw an after market filter on the end of your stock tubing. costs w.e the filter costs! thats what i did

Man, yours looks great...I ordered a BOMZ cold-air intake on ebay and it looked NOTHING like the one on your car. If mine looked like that (and fit like that one) I wouldn't have put an AEM sri in.

So you say just get one of those BOMZ Air Intakes then just get a KN filter and throw that on there now? It seems to me that, thats very genric and it wouldn't work at good? :S But you say that yours works really good?

So you guys say that, that should work just find buying one and putting a KN filter on it? Ok i'll try that then, not like you really lose that much.

Did you ever end up doing that? If so how'd it turn out. Im thinking about doing the same thing.

How does that work there for you man?

No I haven't done it yet I need to get some money, I have been paying off s*** and haven't had the money yet but still looking around tho. lol

the bomz works just like an injen or aem. it's all about the name. play it cheap and buy a filter. works 100% as well.

i am thinking about switching to cold air though so if i do and you want to buy it from me i'll sell it, just not sure if i am switching yet, i need to save money to get it.

Damn dude you answered fast. lol
Well if it works on yours I dont see why it wont work on mine. Ill try it out.

if it's a bomz it will work. just make sure it is a 3 in flange inlet (3 in round pipe where the filter goes) and it will fit

ummm well you let me know if you are going to sell it and I will see if I have the money at the time and see what we can do.

I have the AEM short ram on my 03 ES, and I love it. not only does it sound awesome and increase my gas mileage in the warmer months, but it has also given me tangible improvement in throttle response and some hp gain. and, unlike other SRs for the Protege, the AEM actually bends down into the engine compartment (in the space vacated by the stock intake), as opposed to sitting up near the top of the engine. it's worth every penny.
