Hi everyone. I'll endevor to keep this from being a rant, and fyi I have repented from NTB and found a local tire shop that I trust, but these tires were purchased at NTB.

I replaced all four tires at NTB around 1/12/06. I plus sized to kumho ecsta 712, 205-45ZR16's. Long story short, noticed I was losing air in front left tire, was down to 20lbs, topped off to 32lbs, next day down to 22lbs...overfilled and went to 36 lbs, next day down to 25lbs. Took it to my trusty tireshop, didnt find any nails, instead...see the pics.

Anyhow, they recomended I take to NTB for warrantee/replacement. They put my spare on, I drive up the road to NTB.

Timeline

11/8/06 Tire taken to NTB, determined to be defectivewarrantee it out.
Ordered from warehouse in Florida.

11/13/06 sorry, the warehouse in florida doesnt have it. Well have to order from tirerack.com. Expedite.

11/15/06 We got it! (based on invoice)
5min later
They sent the wrong tire. The guy must be dyslexic. They sent a 245 instead of 205 (too wide)
Well have to order it again.

11/20/06 Call to NTB to inquire status. The cpu doesnt show its arrived. I can have john call you back, hes out of the building right now.no call back.

11/21/06 Call NTB. The tire is discontinued. We can try and substitute a Yoko AS430. (205-45H-16). Non matching. Bandera store has 4. we can warrantee two, so youll have front two matching rear two matching. I of course want all matching. John says I can get fired for warrantee all 4 tires.well have to work something out tomorrow. He agrees to have 4 tires transferred.

11/21/06 5mins later. Boss says can warrantee the one. Cant help with the others.

So here I am, 13 days later, still no fix, and this MUST GET RESOLVED TOMMOROW. (day before thanksgiving).

So, tommorow I get to go battle it out with a company I will never wish to do buisness again...Just need some independant/rational thoughts on the matter from you guys. . .

I plan to ask "What would you say is an acceptable time for a reasonable person to wait before getting angry, while your companty tries to replace a defective tire purchased from your store?"

What is a reasonable solution to the problem folks? Perfect world, I would get 4 new tires free, (dont really see that happening), Some issues i have with having mismatch tires,:
different tread wear
yokos are h rated, my kumho 712s are z rated
yokos are all season, kumhos are highperformance summer.

Will my remaining kumho's have the same defect?

Any reasonable compromises/thoughts on the matter are definitly appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

Jason

(sorry, they are cellphone pics)

I just had a small stroke thinking about being in your shoes ... I'd source a kumho from any vender, explain the infomation in this post in detail to NTB and have them reimburse you. Of course, verify this before you pick up the new tire ...

Man that sucks. Did you talk to the owner? Finding the tire from somewhere else isn't a bad idea.

and oh yea...I am selling my car.

I'm still back at how did the asshats not notice the ****** up tire when putting it on the rim/balancing & why did they just put it on anyway just to complete getting your money/wasting your time? I guess because they could & did.....Good luck making them get right. Go for all 4 just because of the hassle & bulls*** of it to begin with. They do tires all ******* day long, c'mon, that tire should not have gone on anyone's car. That guy afraid of losing his job because of warrantying 4 tires should lose it anyway for their negligence & be glad they aren't being sued after that crap blew & crashed you & your car.

Well..heres the outcome. . .

I showed up, asking to see the manager. "he's at lunch, it will be around 45mins". No problem I said...., I brought a book. (shogun, by the way). Anyhow, decided to leave my car and walk to a nearby restraunt for lunch myself. Came back, nope...still not there. So I wait and read for about 15 minutes until a person came and talked to me...he was the service manager. (not the manager of the location, but still higher than what I had been dealing with)

I asked for his card, and the managers card. We went to his office, I had him tell me what he knew of the situation, then I gave him my side.

He claimed that the district manager said they could not warrantee all four tires, but finally allowed to warrantee two of them. So I would have matching front, matching back.

We talked some more, and I mentioned the Yokos they wanted to use were H rated, and my car came STOCK with V rated, and currently had Z rated tires. (i've really learned alot about tires recently)

So, he immiediatly saw my point, and conceded that they should replace with something comparable. He found some BFG gsport sport 205-45zR16's. Cant get them till monday though.

My 'new' trustworthy tire shop had previously quoted me a price on those exact tires, and I needed to get off my spare tire today...cant wait til monday.

Anyhow, Long story short, I went to my trustworthy place and purchased one bfg gforce and had it installed. (ntb cant/wont reimburse for that) but NTB is giving me 2 free BFG Gforce sport with roadhazard and mounting (free), and cutting a deal on the third tire for a matched set.

It seemed like a good compromise. At least my car can safely go highway speeds now.

Now just have to find out what to do with all these half used tires i have from my recent tire woes.. . .

(1 kumho ecsta 712 205-45zr16), 3 Kumho asx 195-50zr-16.)

For what it's worth, Tirerack rates the BFG gforce sports pretty highly. Time will tell.

Cheers..

Jason

Sounds lik eit worked out, man what a run around. I just got a new set of Yokos for my wifes CRV, 308 including tax mount ... everything.

and did I mention...I am selling my car?

You could use the spares as bricks and throw them through the windows of the other dealer that jerked you around.lol.

Hmmmm....
...it's a TIRE...
...AKA, Rubber and ROUND...
...AKA, not a very effective brick.

Would be humorous to watch, though.

i currently have the bfg gforce sports....i like them a lot...seem to be a decent price and stick pretty well...they have lasted the longest of ANY tire i have had.... no problems either.

good luck with the rest of the situation!

I don't understand why they wouldn't replace all the tires. It would have been great customer service and you probably would have respected them a lot more and possibly recomended them to a friend or family member and brought them more business. Instead, they had to be difficult and give you the run around and you have posted your story on a message board with 30,000 members. I am never going to shop at a NTB store again. That is aweful, im sorry you had to go through all that crap.

you paid a decent amount of money, you got a defective product, you were delayed 30 days, had to spend more money, and in the end still didn't get exactly what you wanted?
If I were you, I'd call your lawyer and call the Better Business Bureau. That whole situation reeks of shady business practices.
