Geez, stock psi is 14.6 on WRX turbo

In regards to the WRX vs. MSP, you guys also have to remember the following:

1) WRX's curb weight is signifcantly more then a MSP
2) Driving 4 wheels requires more power then 2
3) The more the distance between engine and drive wheels, the more the power loss (frictional etc).
4) The WRX is not built for DRAG. It's built for Rally!
5) The WRX (stock) has 3 cat converters. One before the turbo, and two after the turbo.

Umm ok, now explain why the AWD DSM's kick the s*** out of a WRX :). Rules 1-4 apply to them also :).

kwiktsi - if you've ever compared the blocks of the two cars, you can see why this is the case. The DSM's run a cast iron block, whereas the WRX runs an all aluminum block. As well, DSM's come equipped stock (depending on year) w/ a more potent turbo then the dinky little TD04 in the WRX.

The DSM's are very nose heavy, and don't do well in rally (hence you don't see TSi's or GSX's in WRC).

The AWD system is also different in the DSM vs. the WRX.

The DSM also uses a much beefier gearbox and drive shaft then a WRX. (the 5spd gear box on the WRX hasn't changed since the '70's)

Given the correct strategic mods to a WRX vs. a DSM on an auto-x, the DSM would get spanked.

Let me throw my somewhat unrelated two cents in.

Ill go with the 323GTR , thank you. I love a rare vehicle!

I'm not a Rally guy, so you got me there :).. All I know is dollar for dollar, HP for HP, the WRX is a joke.. They can be modded, but take $$$ to do anything past the 300 hp mark. I have seen a DSM motor with 120K miles on the bottom end put 513 hp to the wheels for well over a year before it was torn down for a rebuild- and it was still in perfect running condition when they did.

As for the gearbox tough- hasn't changed since the 70's- and this car is worth upper $20's why???? Perhaps for Rally or anything where the mods are few and well placed, fine, but for a "street" car, they suck..
Joe

was the 323 gtr ever sold here? If not, then how hard would it be to get the same 323 sold in the U.S and do a conversion? None of that , "anything is possible with a lot of money" bull crap.

kwiktsi, YOU are the joke! WTF do you drive!?! And where do you get this dollar for dollar BS? If that's the rational for a good car, then I guess a 5.0 mustang is the greatest car in the world because "dollar for dollar" you can get as much out of them as any car. Continuing with this logic (or lack there of) I guess a GT2 Porsche is a HUGE Joke because there are certainly cheaper ways to make 480hp+

A few more points:
1) stock wrx's are FASTER THAN stock DSM's (save the 3000gt)
2) See this month's sport compact for the stage 2 or 3 vishnu 300whp wrx (with suspension/brake mods)
3)WRX's have large aftermarket support and I've seen videos of them running 10s in the 1/4 (not what they were built for)

I don't think WRX's are the greatest car ever, but they're quite far from a "joke" as you put it. I should link this to i-club so those guys can lay the smackdown...

oh for the love of god please don't show this to the guys on i-club or nasioc...that's the last thing we need is a bunch of lurkers on this board...

link to I-club. Mature- hell, half of them use my MBC, so I already have a relationship with most of them- and a lot of the ones I do deal with complain about their WRX to me...

As for what I drive- I have a high 13 second MSP and a 487 WHEEL (yes, I said wheel) HP (on race fuel and 28 psi- runs 23psi on pump in street tune) talon that has been a daily driver for almost 3 years now.. When you get a 487 WHP WRX that you can daily drive and piss pound for over 4 years to compete with my equivalent talon- let me know.. I'll be sure to follow with a shovel to pick up your trans and bring along a new #3 piston for you..
Joe
PS- As for your stock vs. stock crap- lets see you go 12.9@102 in a stock WRX with a 2.5" cat back, hollowed cat and 20 psi on race fuel- I have done it CONSISTENTLY in a Talon, so a "faster" WRX should be no problem to do this with.. Oh wait, let's see said WRX hold 20 psi first. Whatever... I speak from experience, not what a magazine says..

You're a pretty arrogant guy for someone that's trying to sell products and earn customers' respect. Calling the WRX a joke is silly because you know it's faster that a stock MSP or Talon. Is the MSP a joke? It certainly doesn't have the potential of the 4g63. Anyway, I do like your products and support of MSP's just not your opinion in this instance.

wether or not you like what you call his opinion in this case. it and he is right. how many big #'s do you hear coming from WRX's?they don't have 6 and 7 sec. WRX's do they?

trying to compare a ej20 to 4g63 is pointless. the 4g63's have been a benchmark engine for the tuning world. not too many engines from compact imports can handle anywhere near what the 4g63 can.

you can max out a t-25's efficiency before you blow the engine. to run 17-18psi on a msp is a recipe for a rebuild.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE MOVE THIS OUTTA HERE!

Keep in mind that the WRX is fairly new to US shores and tuners haven't been able to squeeze all the juice out of it like 10 year old+ DSM's. Again, I'm not the champion of the WRX. Check my sig. I don't own one, nor do I plan to, but they're hardly a joke...
