I've been rolling around with my backseat out lately, mostly to avoid filling the backseat with people when we go out... which means tire rub over big bumps on the highway. Out of extreme luck I discovered a floorpan cap had been leaking rain water into the cabin, resulting in rust spots all over my driver's side floor. My guess is it got dislodged slightly when I was t-boned many moons ago, but a lil 3M body sealer does the trick.

The track wheels, soon to be orange:

Its definately a different driving experience with the car gutted... this weekend EVERYTHING gets put back into the car. It won't be gutted again until the track safety stuff is rounded up(rollbar, seats, 5pt harnesses) (rockon)

I really like your car man...It's "clean" ;)

How much weight do you think you took out while gutting...?

Gutted%20001.jpg

seats bout 50 pounds
wheel well panels, door sills, side trunk trim, rear plastic trunk cover, trunk carpet, jack, tire iron, seat brackets, middle hinges, hardware 30 pounds
spare tire 35 pounds
seatbelts 25 pounds

That is a total guess but I know those are all the pieces cause my car is gutted right now.

Yep, I've always guessed about 150lbs of weight removed, a lil more with the center console pieces gone? When the track stuff goes in, the sound deadening and rear door panels will be removed and a nice layer of paint put down to spruce it up. I'm hesitant to fabricate the rollbar myself, but if I have the correct pipe dies, I'm gonna do it :)

Until the rollbar is made, I'll be keeping the full interior. Right now I'm trying to decide between track safety/Konis or building the motor... The local track is more of a "momentum track" than a long straight/hp wins track though so I'm leaning towards making it safer and handle better.

I've probably added 300 pounds to my car with deadener, amps, racks, sub boxes, speakers. s***'s heavy

Jealous. How come you left the rear dash/speaker cover and all that foam underneath?

Because the 3rd brake light mounts to it and the cover hides the alarm brain. Plus is doesn't reflect the sun as much as the bare metal would.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get everything back together.

Mmmm...gutted.

What are you looking to do with the car now that the interior is out? I think a Protege/P5 with a stripped interior would handle great, plus you could selectively add back weight to get better handling. Bummer that SCCA really penelizes you for this in their auto-x grouping.

My estimates of weight were a little different. If I were to go this route, I'd hope to remove the following weight:

Front Seats - 40lbs each
Back seat - 40lbs
Interior trim - 30lbs
Spare - 30lbs
Seatbelts - 25lbs
AC system - 80lbs
Hood - net 20lbs
Audio system including Sub - 30lbs

That's 325lbs total. I figure that's worth about 1 second to 60mph and it would really liven up the handling. Alas, I need the car's interior intact until I get another car. In fact, the next car I;m thinking about is a MX-5 that would be just for fun, so the P5 probably will never get stripped.

I took off the back seat and stuff long time ago, and the handling was really bad, so I put them all back on my car....
