Moonroof Wind Deflector/Dash Assembly Questions

Greetings fellow Mazda drivers!!!

I just got my shipment of accessories from Mazdastuff.com and have been busy installing everything, but I have a few questions for anyone else who may have had the moonroof wind deflector installed...

My install went smooth for the most part...It's on straight and nice and tight and all, but the weather stripping that lines the bottom of it is kind of wrinkled after spending two days in the sunlight...I went outside today and removed it, increased the tension on the weather stripping and re-seated it just as it was the first time...Is this a normal thing that happens with a wind deflector when the rubber weather stripping gets its first few days in the sun??? Will it eventually expand then contract to a tighter position over time???

I can provide pics if necessary to show what I'm talking about, and as always, thanks to everyone in advance for any assistance you can give me...I've had a moonroof on some of my past cars, but this is the first one with a wind deflector so I'm a bit new to this :D

Now onto the radio console removal...I also ordered the cassette player with trim panel and the installation seems to be plug and play, however, I can't seem to remove the plastic panelling that houses the shifter to get it installed...The drawings on the factory instructions are about 3x3 inches, don't show very much and are hard to comprehend...

Has anyone removed their console to install either a radio upgrade or swap out LED's etc??? If so, how did you remove it??? The instructions read to remove the inner kick panels and shift knob and lift up on the shift panel to expose the cigar lighter and 4 screws that hold the face of the radio/AC controls in place...Any advice or walkthrough would be more than appreciated!!! :D

Thanks again!!!

K, screws under the dash, both sides, remove gear shift knob,

This part can then be pulled up, you'll have to move it up and over the gear shift by putting it in N. Then there are 4 screws inside the opening. Two at the outside close to you, then two under the bottom of the top section. Then, from the top of the radio section, pull it towards you.

There is a thread with an iPod AUX install that has pics, do a search.

Pissy about the wind deflector, I've been thinking about getting one. Maybe pass by the dealer and ask?

Thanks for the tip Kid much apreciated, I'll do my search now :D

I was able to remove and straighten out the gasket that lines the outside of the deflector this morning and it has held up fine so far...I'm hoping it stays this way because I really like having it installed...It looks great on the car!!! "D

It's not too hard getting the radio out, I've had that part of the dash apart a couple of times now, the hardest part is being willing to pull hard enough on those clip things so that you can get them out without breaking anything.

Mine came with the moonroof cover installed, and there are little cuts in the rubber around it. Does yours have that? I'll attach a pic of mine. I think they are important both to let the molding curve around without wrinkles as well as letting water come out? I'm not sure about that, but it feels like it would pool in there and then come down the window when you accelerate if it didn't drain out somewhere.

Wind Deflector

I'm not sure about the problem with your deflector.
I had mine installed by the dealer without any problems.
Post an image let's see what the problem is.

Thanks for posting the picture of it...I'll be posting some pics of mine both rom the inner and outer perspectives to show what I mean...Although, I did straighten the gasket out again today and it went right into place to where it should be...It actually looks fine now with the exception of the gasket molding not flowing completely straight across the front of the deflector...It almost runs to a point from both sides...Like it goes to an arrow right in the center of the molding...I could just be seeing things, but I honestly never noticed the deflector being rounded at all across the front of it...I always saw it as being in a straight line...Pics are coming later this evening :)

Hey X10Jams, mine looks exactly like yours does...I also have the cuts on each end, and they help the water to drain out so it doesn't pool up...I was wondering if you could possibly post a pic of where you have the clips mounted on the inside of your deflector...I'd like to post some pics of mine so we could compare...I dumped a glass of watter and we got some heavy rains yesterday and I'm still leak and water free so far, but I'd love to know if I got them in the right place ;)

Oh and Zoom5Zoom thanks so much for posting those links for me, much appreaciated my friend :D :D :D

****EDIT****

Here's the links to the pics I took of the wind deflector this evening...

(left side angled view...Notice the slight wave in the gasket right as it hits the middle)

(mounting bracket installed right where the moonroof curves on the right hand corner...This seemed like the only place this thing would go on for me so I hope I got it right and that I don't get any water coming into the car during the storm we have coming tomorrow...
