Better Oil Filter At Dealer For Protege

could you give me the info on the car it's from,IE year, model, and engine size.

I will post the product numbers for WIX,FRAM,and K&N oil filters for it.

The filter with the internal valve was only available at the dealer. I have tried to get it from Fram etc but was unable to find one that looked like it inside...it has a diferent pop valve inside that would divert oil around the filter under hard driving conditions to keep pressure and flow rates up! I would prefer to have semi filtered oil rathrer than No Oil if the filter was clogged. The housing is twice as large as the stock one, fits with lots of room to spare and if size = more filter element. I think it is a great cheap thing to do.

Dude...

if you run synthetic, you won't need this filter,I have pulled apart a lot of filters on syn run cars, the stay really ******* clean.

good info though BRIAN

Well, I agree that if you run good oil and change it when you should there is no need for overkill here.... I personally think overkill is what the minimum standard should be...

hmm...ive been using the JEY0-14-302-9A filters...is this better than what im currently using?

this is what i have been using as well, it works fine as long as you add 1/2 qt more oil than with the B6Y1

The difference between the msp and the same bad engine on the p5 is that the msp has a oil cooler in between the block and the filter and its about 1-1/2 inches so it might not fit on a msp.

This i believe is true

It fits great actually, there is a ton of room to fit the 626 turbo filter.

However! the Fram 626 turbo filter will NOT work.

i got a check oil light that did not go away. so the oem mazda filter may be the only way to go.

Which filter are you refering to? Do you have a part #?

FYI Guys, the 02-03 WRX Turbo Filter is much larger than the OEM one, Mobil 1 actually makes a synthetic version of it, and it appears to have a much better filtering capacity than OEM. Takes total oil intake to about an even 4qts. Direct swap on.

You think an Oil Filter would trip a CEL?? (poke)
