Painting MSP rims....

Okay i decided im going to paint my rims i got the paint and clear coat in the pic below (i got more cans of paint tho) I have read some of the other threads bout painting them but i had a few more...

1. I plain on wet sanding them does that seem like a good idea because the finish on the rims are real shiny and i still want the new paint to be glassy looking and not dull.

2. Any other good tips u guys may have.

3. do you guys think this color will look good on my 2003.5 Titanuim grey msp. the other pic is a pic of my friends car with the same color wheel paint i got so i figure it will look similar to the color on his rims.

Man, I don't know. Once you do it, it's done. I'd rather see them in white, personally. I've never liked dark/black wheels on a car unless there is a polished lip to set off the boundary between the wheel and tire.

If you want to do it I would indeed recommend thoroughly wet sanding the wheels so the new paint can bite. It's not going to affect whether your new paint is glossy or not. I would strongly consider buying a p.o.s. wheel out of a junkyard and practicing on it first to see how the results come out.

You might also consider getting them powdercoated. It would be a tougher finish and should look good. Don't know about available colors though.

well i mean we have painted my friends rims and stuff and a few other so we have had some exsperance (sp?) i just had a few question bout the finshing on the MSP rim but u cleared it up for me thanks........

if you look at the wheels i have f/s in the link in my sig, you'd see how the duplicolor paint will turn out. i like it...it's kinda dull in the dark, but they look real nice in the sunlight.

it was fairly easy...wet sand, clean...paint.

i used 5-6 coats of color (VERY light coats...you won't see a real change until your 3-4th coat) and 3-4 of clear. wasn't hard at all. i sat them in the sun to help them cure.

hope that helps,
chris

I use that paint for everything.

I would not recommend painting your own wheels with a rattle can paint though, that's for sure. The finish of that paint will not be anywhere as good as the factory finish. It's not much darker either. You should have them professionally powdercoated if you want to change the color.

y do you want them darker? they match the car and look good hyperblack or what ever color they are.

i dont know im just getting tired of it looking plain and i have always wanted darker rims so i figured i would just paint them.............

i think a dark bronze would look KILLER, my wheels are slightly chipping zand i think i'm gonna sand them down and paint them a dark bronze, or find some second hand MP3 wheels only probably going to be very expensive and i don't even know the offset.

Like this.....

I love them because they are different from others, but in a good way.

preCISEly!!! what wheels are those? motegi? you know when i bought mine i thought they were kinda rice-brand but i see more and more cars with them and i LOVE mine.. i just hope they don't break because they're so light and motegi doesn't have the best rep.

Motegi LC5, and so far, these wheels are awesome. All I get is compliments about them. Motegis are popping up everywhere now, especially the MR7. It's a good looking wheel that suits many different cars.

yeah i love mine and get complimented on the as well... plus they're 16's and weigh ~16 lbs each... definately not complaining

looks like i got into the wrong set of wheels... i thought 16's would be cheaper on times but when it all comes down to it.... you're paying for contact patch... 16... 17... it don't matter.

mind if i ask what offset those bad boys are? i think i may have to get me some they're very sweet. also, do you have any other pictures so's i can take in the full silver and bronze effect?

Don't do it Tyler. You will not be able to get that glossy stock look with the can. I think you will end up regretting it if you go through with it. Remember how my MP3 wheels when painted bronze didn't have a good shine but instead more of a matte look. Which btw, they are still for sale and I think they would kick ass on your MSP. ;) I'll even help you paint them whatever color you want.

well for a cheap price maybe........

Now that i tihnk about it i might get the more bronze color and paint them that??

I think Duplicolor discontinued the bronze paint so good luck on finding any. It used to be near impossible to get some, now I think it is just impossible. I might still have a can or two left but that is just enough to touch up my Racing Harts. I do think bronze on the Titanium would look excellent though.
