Offset frustration

Why no universal offset of say 45 for many makes of vehicle?

I've been looking at wheels for days now and I've settled on some 17x7 with +43 offset. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they fit with no rubbing on my P5.

I'm willing to roll the rear fenders so hopefully that'll give me any room I need.

On the other hand I'm almost ready to get 16's just to avoid all this frustration.

Why did Mazda have to go and make this so difficult? Everyone else uses around 40 offset.

If you're not lowered they should fit just fine. Just don't cram on some huge tires and you'll be fine. I've actually found that alot of cars are in the 50-55mm offset. WRX, IS300, Tc, RSX, etc, etc, etc....it's usually the smaller compacts that have the higher offsets.

I accidentally got 17x7's with a +43 offset and even with rolling/cutting the fenders, they rubbed bad. I was lowered with RB Springs (0.75") at the time. Then I realized good ol' Les Schwab gave me the wrong offset (ordered +48's)(argh)

I have no rubbing issues at all, lowered on tein springs with 18 x 7.5 with a +45 offset and the tires are a 215/35/18

you must have had huge tires. if he has 17X7's with a +43, he should be fine with 205/40/17's

Good to know.

I got tired of all the BS and just ordered 205/40/17 on 17x7 with +42 offset.

Screw it, I'll make it work. I'm only going for a mild drop anyhow.
If I have to roll the fenders I will.
Thanks all.
I'll report back oficially to let everyone know exactly how it all works out.

yes, mild drop wont matter.

coil overs-type drop will need a high offset. im just shocked the +42 mentioned doesnt rub o.O

I'm amazed as well. I'd like to add, though, that I haven't had a full load in my car either, so there's no telling what would happen if I had more than 2 people in the backseat.
