Removing Interior Pieces

:
2002 Mazda Protege5
I decided to paint my interior pieces on my 02 P5 red instead of that ugly off gold color. ive painted my shift plate, the passenger side air vent, the door panels where the window switch is, and the gauge bezel. I'm having a little trouble removing a couple pieces tho. One of them is the door handles. I cant figure it out! The other is the part around my shifter (i have an auto) that has the P-R-D-2-3 letters on it. Cant figure that one out either. And the drivers side air vent piece. Not the vent itself, but the piece around it. Ive searched the forum but cant find anything. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

door handles: remove the screw first. it can be seen behind the handle. after that, you should have no problem.

the shifter: that part u are referring to (PRD23) has 2 screws holding it down i believe. or 4. i dont remember.

the side air vent trim: u need to yank off the panel on the left side of the vent (it faces the door. it is a big panel that covers the side of the dash.
after u remove that, u have to feel around for 2 screws holding in the trim and shove a screw driver in there if u can.

good luck

i removed that screw that youre talking about, but its connected to a spring that opens the door. what do i do after i remove that screw?

and the shifter piece-one of the reasons i cant get it off is cause i cant get it around the shift knob. how do i remove that?

the door handle is now connected to the rod at two places. separate the side part first, then simply lift

^^^ do that to remove the door handle. u have to lift a silver rod from the back of the handle.

the shift knob... with the car's ebrake on, turn the ignition once and shift it all the way to 1. keep your ebrake on now! the knob shouldnt be in your way after that

There is a clip holding the door handle to the pull-rod.

This clip twists off the rod, then the handle pulls up off of it.

Okay, the pieces im having trouble removing are the ones shown below. the shift plate, i guess you could call it, wont come off unless the shift knob comes off. im not sure on how to do that. and the drivers side vent piece, not the vent itself but the piece around it(dont ask about the paint). i think its just attached to the dash. sorry for the dirty car.

the shifter, shift down into 1 and use a small + screw driver and remove the two screws in the back. ull have to yank the knob off because it is connected to the o/d button. u WILL rip the wires. (u can try cutting it? i just yanked it off) just rewire them after.

the vent piece, ull have to go from the left side like i described. good luck
