Hood locks instead of pins?

I couldn't find much info about this topic, so I thought I would start a new thread to see what you guys think.

I want to get rid of my stock latch for my CF hood, and I really hate the look of hood pins. I have seen hood locks that use a nice looking flush mounted solex lock, but it seems like people only use them for security purposes in addition to the stock latch.

My question is does anybody here know of anyone using these locks to actually hold down a hood by themselves?

Also, can anybody see any reason why these wouldn't work as good as hood pins?

Thanks in advance for any input, I really think these would look a lot better than pins:

they will do it just fine. same design as my hood pins, just more secure. BUT, i'd never get rid of stock latch. just IMO.

i've seen the lock style hood pins but most places i've read said they weren't as strong as latch style pins and would require you to still keep the stock hood latch. summit sells a mr. gasket locking hood pin kit for $25 if you were interested though but like i said you'd have to keep your stock latch.

I would never get rid of my stock latch, My last car had a CF hood held down with pins and NO stock latch and.....WHAM there goes a $600 CF hood and a $300 windshield. If I had the stock latch it wouldn't have happened.

I do like the idea of using hood locks as pins would look clean.

I just ordered some black hood locks. Once I received them and the hood, I'll post some pics here for consumption.

Bump from the dead. t3ase, did you ever install them? How did they turn out?

i bought a set and was going to put them on my car...then i decided it was a very bad idea if you look where "H" is pointing in the pic that is the only thing holding the hood all it is a small roll pin i would highly doubt it would hold the hood. Also the holes you have to drill for these are alot larger than that of hood pins. And lastly the large washers they use on either side of the hood would not only have a hard time sitting flat but i noticed on my WW evo hood the fiberglass undersite prevents the ability to snadwich the hood between the two washers.

Finally going to happen. I am keeping the stock latch though... I removed the vertical support and it looks a lot cleaner through the top grill, even with the latch assembly still there. But... my hood has been moving around on the highway lately, and I am worried that it is going to fly open on me. I will be putting them on this weekend, that is IF I can gather the courage to drill these holes.:) I got a set from NRG Innovations, and they have a carbon fiber top plate that matches the weave on my hood absolutely perfect.

I will post some installed pics and perhaps a how-to when I am done on sunday. For now, here is a pic of the kit:

This one shows how well my DG grill matches the WW hood, because it is seriously a perect match as far as the strand width and weave pattern when I set it on the hood:

There is one spot that is perfect for them, they will end up just above the inside edge of each headlight. I will take some pics to show you where they will fit.

i look foward to seeing this because i still have mine sitting around. I may just pick up a set of blue sparco pins this weekend though

My ViS hood has a major slant.... I don't know if there is a flat enough spot to put something like this. My hood also moves a bit on the highway.

I never installed them, as I didn't have the balls to cut in to the hood myself. However, now that the car's going to sitting it out this summer, I think I just may go at it.

I'm anxious to see the pics mentioned above, as I'm also trying to figure out where to put the pins.

Still being a wuss about hacking up my hood... that and the drill bits I need to do it will run me about 35 bucks so I have thrown this on the back burner. I will get on it soon though... actually probably real soon because I need to make a highway trip next week and don't want the hood flying open on me.

I'll post an update in here as soon as I get them on.

I had them on my old hood before I sold it. They worked great. I also left the factory latch as well.

Here's the only pic I could find with them in it on my HD.
