bad amp still good to use?

i have a kicker ix405 i think. 5-channel amp that i bought from a friend used. its an awesome amp with everything i'll ever need in an amp. unfortunately, the left rear spkr output is bad. alpine's website had the suggestion of hooking up an amp to power the sub & front component spkrs and using the MOSFET headunit to power the rear (see attached pic).

my question is, can i use my current amp to just power the 3 speakers or will that overload the amp? i work at an electronic store and the guys i work with say always hook up all the speakers even if youre only testing so the circuit is complete and you dont overload anything. the amp has 3 rca inputs: front, rear, sub. if i got a headunit with front, rear, & sub preouts...can i just hook up the front & rear and the amp will be ok?

you shouldn't be hurting anything by not running the rear channels. essentially think of it as having 2 2channel amps and one mono amp. one of the 2channels is out, No big deal, just don't use it. Nothing else should be affected unless there's something really screwy goingon inside, eitherway, trying it out won't hurt anything at all.

How is the speaker output bad? What does it do or not do? I have a kicker 550.3 3 cahnnel amp that I would maybe consider selling you for your amp and some cash, if you are interested.

thanks for the replies. the rear right channel has no output at all. i plugged the left rear speaker into the same channel and got the same problem - no sound. the reason im asking is because im still debating if i should buy another amp or just save some cash and keep the one for now.

You can NEVER hurt an amp by not hooking up one of the outputs. By not giving it a load (speaker) you have no circuit and the amp will do nothing.

It sounds like both of your rear outputs are bad?
Check the setup switches on the amp if it has any to be sure that its not just setup wrong for your applications. Older alpine amps could do things like that depending on where the dip switched were set.

just the right rear output is bad, cuz i plugged a different speaker into it and got the same result. i also tried plugging the right speaker into another output and was able to get sound from it. i havent played with it since i installed it, so im not sure if any settings were changed but i'll check.

how about u plug the speaker in different out put for time so 2 speakers from one output i bet it works if some guy told me to connect my control wire to my power for amp and then run it around and of into control into amp and guess wat amp did turn on is that weird or wat damn audio guy looks hella geekie though

If you have no output at all, then it is not a complete circuit anymore. On the other hand, it should be ok to use the others.
