1. Does a carbon fiber hood look right on a black p5?

2. Can a carbon fiber hood be painted?

3. Do you lose any weight with a carbon fiber hood?

Sorry guys but I am a noob and my friend just crashed my car. Just wanted to hear opinions.

well, you decide. A guy at the dealer i go to who had seen my car before (pre-cf) saw it parked about 50 ft away, noticed the grill. Didn't notice the hood till he was like 5 ft away.

Im thinking about getting one on my red P5. Don't know if it would look good or not

You will most likely lose weight with it but I hope this won't be one of your main reason's for getting one!! With a car like this, you will most likely need a lot more weight saving mods to get the car to up and go on it's stock formed power plant!! Also keep in mind that depending on where you get a CF hood, it may fade in a year or so depending on how you take care of it and how much sun it will see, and when it fades, you will most likely not like the out come!!!

i lost ten pounds on the carbon fiber hood diet. sorry, just being a smart ass. i think they look dope on black cars but not as good as on white ;)

Has anyone had this experience? To protect the CF hood, do you just wash and wax it like the rest of the car?

Yeah...I'd like to know this too. I live in Vegas and things that are black don't like the weather here too much.

I have a black car and black vented CF hood. its pretty cool, because from a distance / certain angles you cant tell its CF. i wash and wax mine all the time (well...not in winter... :( ) and it just looks dope when its clean and shiney and ... i want it to be spring damnit!

After looking at eepr5's p5, I am convinced that I want the carbon fiber hood and the carbon fiber hood. At first, I only wanted the fiberglass grill and get that painted but not that I've seen the carbon fiber grill on 2 black p5's, I want that too now.

Now what other choice do I have besides the DGMotorsports carbon fiber hood?

That's a link to a GB going on in the forums for Carbon Fiber Hoods, and Trunks. Check it out.

Other companies that make CF hoods for Proteges include WingsWest, VIS, Fiber Images, Niv has the reverse cowl Carbon Fiber hood. That's the only ones i can think of at the moment, but i'm sure if i left out any, someone else will add on.

If you want to protect your CF components without having to wax weekly the best thing to do is take the hood to a reputable custom paint shop and have them spray it with a couple of clear coats with a UV inhibitor. The fading is not due to the CF actually fading but due to the expoxy/vinylester/polyester resin pitting due to reaction to uv light and exposure to pollutants in the air. Yes, you'll pay 300-400 dollars but will save you alot of work down the line. Unless you love to wax your car. I have a custom CF overlay on the roof of my P5 for over a year and its my daily driver here in SCentral Texas, and it's showing no signs of fading.

PS I'd highly recommend Glasrit paint very tough, high quality paint (oem paint on Mercedes, Porsche, etc)

Thanks man! I plan on having some of my CF hood painted (you can see in the photoshop pic in my sig). I'll pass this info you gave me to my paint guy, he'll do it for a reasonable price.
