Just wondering, but does anybody know the exact color name of a spraypaint I can buy at a store near me that is basically the exact black (or very close) color as the stock protege5 radio? I made a custom mount for my radar, but the black I had is really off....so I want to buy new paint and repaint it on Monday.

Thanks!

How is the radar pickup once its in the bracket?
It's actually a remote mount radar, so the antenna is mounted behind the front grille. The detection range so far has seemed pretty good. Of course it doesn't have the same range my escort passport 8500 x50 had this summer, but it does I nice job, especially for a $180 remote mount detector.

if you want to get a REALLY GOOD MATCH.....find a local automotive paint shop that has an OPTICAL READER/MATCHER.....you could take a piece of the plastic to them, their optical reader can scan it and will match it......then you can have a "rattle can" filled with the paint. its not as cheap as just finding some off the shelf paint....but it will give you an EXACT match....

Cool. I went to home depot and found what looked like might be very close for $2, so I'll try it tomorrow or Monday. If it's not close enough I'm just gonna keep trying until I'm satisfied...I may have to do what you said with the custom paint. I want this to look stock.

Thanks!

Try some generic black vinyl dye. It is great for painting plastic and doesn't streak at all when applied. You can usually get it at Wal-Mart or any hardware store.

not totally on topic, but i thought this was a good place to ask this question...

does that little bezel dummy plate pop out if you pry on it or do you have to take out the radio? i'm not usually one to shy away from using some brute force, but that is one piece that i don't think i would want to bother replacing if i broke it.

It pops out if you pry it. The piece goes back about half an inch to an inch, that's why it's tricky to get it out, but you just gotta pull basically if you can get under it. It wont break....just dont break anything around the piece if wahetever you're suing to pry it slips!

If you take the radio out it is much easier to replace the radio bezel. You also have to unplug the A/C control wires. One behind the glove box and one more on the right side of the driver side kick panel. Once you do that everything will be free to pull out and then you can do whatev with it you want.
