Canada projects a $4.9B surplus this year

Jesus, who ******* cares about who's army is bigger. Big dick syndrome if you ask me.

There are a lot better things to spend money on then that crap. Education, healthcare, community services, improvements to cities, things for the less fortunate out there.

rather then spending that money on one stealth bomber, lets do something else shall we?

Yea...what was that bumper sticker that was out a few years ago....Something like

'I'll be glad when my kid has all the books he needs and the Air Force has to hold a bake sale for another bomber"

Which is what alot of people here believe, though it doesn't always happen. Despite this though there is alot of budget cutting and stream lining that goes on in the military or atleast on the Marine side.

What people fail to realize is that no one wants to invade Canada. It pretty much squashes the whole "they hate us because of our lifestyle, freedom, liberty" crap. If this was the case, Canada would be on the s*** list too, but they aren't. They mind their own damn business. Terrorists attack us because we are aggressive, greedy, manipulative, and hypocritical.

Agreed!

Canada was the world's #1 country (for Quality of living, etc..) for like 3-4 years running, although now we're 6-7 on the list? but a surplus is always nice to see... I should get goodale to balance my chequebook.. it needs some help. :)

that's really not too bad with only ~32 million citizens.

All our military does is goes in after the 'fun' has been had and maintains the peace for years and years, getting on most countries' good side :)

(big up to the WWII comment by M=SP^2)

ha haha ha

Well put, and I guess thats where the difference btween US and Canada!

I agree with most of you. Canada has been know as a peace keeping country and not an invading force. Canada during the sencond world war was known for their navy and we still unfortunetly have the same bloody war ships (tugboats with machine guns) today!! I truly believe that if the US was to be invaded they would have to go through Canada first and that worries me. We should take the billions of dollars and invest it in our navy. It's not like getting a whole bunch of fighter planes and missles. We would probably still be know as a peacefull country but at least we could protect ourselves. The US Cariers are not always parked in Newfoundland waiting to protect us and I truly think it should be our responsibility to help the US in that respect because they will be the first ones to come to our aid. Our land and natural resources and free trade are worth too much to our fellow americans to let us be invaded. Especially these days with Bush and his mine is bigger than yours syndrome!! (canada)

My 2 cents!!

5.9 B?? dang... no wonder where all our tax money goes...
well that and adrian clarkson (now there's a waste of taxpayers money)

for you yanks, she's pretty much an old lady who pretends she's Miss Canada (in terms of attending "functions") and costs us way too much. lol.. = to our military budget.. hehe

I better see some of the 5.9B going to something useful.

And yes..there is a big difference between us and can military. They are more of a peace-making, and we are peace-keeping. Maybe revamp it a bit w/ some newer toys and more soldiers. But I think a lot of that has to go to health care, education and overall country's development. Good thing Chretien isn't the pm anymore.

do you really think there is even a remote possibility that anyone is going to try to invade the US? maybe this is my american ignorance speaking but it really doesnt seem like anything that is a realistic possibility.

Aside from N Korea or some screwball dictators invading a neighbor I think the US is the only country that would try to invade another one in this day and age.

China is the only country with the means and potential desire to invade the USA. Whether it ever happens is another question. This is why we give them so many economic bonuses and basically ignore their human rights violations.

5.9B just makes a little dent in our deficit.
but it's good that we're working to get rid of that s****. but it'd be nice to Paul Martin spend a little more money on military spending. Just stuff like new guns, camo gear, etc... Maybe a couple battleships from the US. They have tons of them just sitting around collecting dust.
