White scratch in driver's door....
About three weeks ago I dj'd this block party for a neighborhood. There were at least 20 or 30 kids of all different ages under about 12, and maybe 30 or 40 parents. When I pulled into the culdisac where I was supposed to set up, I noticed there were tons of kids on bikes and other things. The person who hired me told me to move my car into the driveway next door so we wouldn't risk having anything happen to my car.
After djing for about an hour and a half, I went over ot my car to make a phone call. I noticed a 4"-5" scratch in the driver side door, deep enough to make it white. The husband of the lady who hired me told me that he knew a guy around here that would "take care of me," so I figured that meant they were gonna pay for the scratch to be taken care of professionally. After I waited a week for the guy to contact the shop, I called wife who hired me back and she told me she just needed to call her usband to get the shop's number, where they would now "not rip me off." Obviously this made me mad since that seems to imply they're not paying for the damage. It seems like they've now been away for a week and a half, since I call everyday and get their answering machine, but now I'm wondering, Are they liable for the damage since I was told to move the car into that driveway?; or is the owner of the driveway responsible?.....or neither? I didn't see what kid did this damage, but my parents are saying I have to pay for this if I want the scratch out. I went to a few autobody shops, and they all seems to say the whole door needs to be repainted, and it will be around $250. My insurance deductible is $1000, so there's no use in contacting my insurance agency. Seeing as I'm only 17, and I dj pretty much for fun, and only made $180 total that night, I don't think it's fair to make me pay for this damage. Any ideas? I have no problem with forcing the people to pay for it in court if they dont offer to pay for it first, and they are technically liable for the damage.
Any ideas? Sorry for the long story, but this is just something that is ridiculous.
Thanks!
