My car is totalled.....

Well, here is an update. I got the car towed to a boy shop up in Albuquerque. my mom saw it and took pics, I will post them when I get them. This is what my mom told me:

As far as fixing the car. A big truck with less damage than yours came in
before and the estimate was $10,000 on the truck, so who knows what yours
will be... at least that. Danlar said that now State Farm has to come in
and look at it. They said it was the worst hail damage car they had ever
seen. They said they can repair/replace the roof and side section you were
talking about, replace the hood and everything else, some of the doors they
would just repair popping out the dents. the whole car would be repainted
and virtually it would be brought back to the way it looked on Sunday. It
would take about 35 working days to fix, that is 2 months. The carpets will
be pulled out and replaced, the seats will be cleaned and dried and the
electronics throughout the car will be tested to see they are ok as well.
The headliner probably needs to be replaced as well as it is soaking wet.
So we will find out if it is worth repairing or just totaling. State Farm
makes that decision. We will keep you informed.

So it sounds like to me that it is totaled. There is no way that insurance will find it cheaper to do 35 days of labor. They'll just give me what the car is worth, I guess.

This SUCKS!!!! I only drove my car 4 times since I put the exhaust on. Life is not fair.

I was wondering....

Is the roof part of the unibody? What exactly does the unibody contain in our cars? I think that will really determine if it can be fixed.

I checked the Kelly blue book on my car, it is about $16,500. So I am thinking that my car will be fixed by insurance, because I don't think the damage will run that much.

Check NADA guide too. I dealt with State Farm when someone ran into me in West Virginia, they said they use NADA only, at least then. Here's the link:

pics

Here's some pics other people took around here. My car is only in two of them but it gives you a good idea of the damage I am looking at. In the first pic you can see my destroyed sunroof and roof rack as well as the SIZE of the hail. (also see last pic for that).

There are lots more pics here:

As for other updates:

I have more pics of my car coming, they just need to be developed (stupid old camera).

Insurance will use the market value for re-embursement. So I will get more value because of tint, exhaust, etc (although i am gonna try to get the exhaust off the car if I can).

they told us that they would total it if the damage >= 65% of the value of the car. This means that they will likely total it, becuase the damage is way over 10,500 (which is about 65% or so). I still dont know for sure.

This means I need to start looking for a car to buy :( I'd love to buy a used RX8, but I think they are too new for them to be reasonably priced used yet. Any suggestions? it will be hard to find another good P5 here with low mileage, so I am really exploring every option. I need to find a good, safe, reliable car with lots of potential (in terms of mods) that will run me around $14k-$16k.

Ouch!
Don't know about your area but here in VA there are still some new P5s in stock for under 14k.

*goes outside and massages his P5, with promises that I will throw my body over it in a hail storm* :)

Ace - Sorry to hear the "news," but I would also assume they're gonna total it. Hey, wanna sell your exhaust? *vultures circling*

Don't count out a used RX-8 -- remember the horsepower flap they had when it was released. Mazda offered to buy back people's cars if they weren't happy. Some of them had to be a few months old.

Just checked out Auto Trader and seems like most used RX-8's are in the $26-27K range. Look around and see what you can find!

Seriously though...if you can get the exhaust off, let's talk....(even though I DO feel bad about saying that).

Take care...and just be glad you're safe.

How did every one else do in this storm?

Car cover

Hey Ace, would a good thick car cover reduce or eliminate this damage at all? Im just wondering, that hail is so big Im not sure. Maybe cushion it a little bit?

Sucks about your car, I have never seen anything like this before. Good luck with finding another one.

I thought about that but I'm not really sure it would have helped. it would have probably still dented a little but the car cover would have prevented the water damage. It is hard to tell, I bet that I would have still gotten a lot of damage.

Now that's some monster hail...I know this aint right but I really laughed so hard when I saw the pics of the guys camero. It looks like some thugs beat the *#(! out of it with a baseball bat. I guess its funny when it doesn't happen to you. Now thiers a guy who needs insurance.

ummm.....

first of all its never funny, especialy considering we are all poor college students here.

Secondly,

Thats how bad my car is.

Actually its worse, because that camaro doesnt even have much damage to the body itself. Mine had the sunroof like that plus a heck of a lot more damage to the body.

Dude, I'm so sorry to hear that... and sorry to be late responding. I don't get on this site but once in a while... :(

If you don't mind a late suggestion... I got my LX02 from a Hertz dealer in Colorado near Denver. Rental cars are usually in good shape with low enough mileage and a good warranty and a lower range price figure.
