    auto vs manual transmission

"True" manual transaxles are unusual in FWD and/or F/awd vehicles due to the danger therefrom. VW has just introduced a new feature that undoubtedly will increase the safety factor substantially. Sort of a form of TC, Traction Control, in that the engine will automatically up-rev if the driver...

Anyone heard is Mazda has come up with anything on smoking turbos?

But wouldn't I be better off buying the turbo motor and bypassing the turbo entirely..?? Mill the engine head down to get the DFI standard 12:1 compression ratio....

Question about the tranny on cx-7

The combined engine/transaxle ECU control module would go out of its mind trying to control the engine in combination with a non existent automatic transaxle.

    ETS 3" TMIC installed.

And I have some swamp land for sale in FL, are you interested..?? The black paint coat, powder coat yet, not only reduces the efficiency it will be an aid in the intercooler getting heat soaked from convection heat rising from below. But the radiant heating effects will probably be even worse...

Will pulling ABS & DSC fuses disable AWD as well?

For a rallycross I would wire 12 volts directly to the rear driveline clutch and disconnect one front halfshaft. If you do this fairly often there is an aftermarket kit from remco(sp) that allows you to manually lock/unlock a front halfshaft. An aspect of DSC is used in order to know when the...

    Boost limiting.

Not so much interested in HOW boost is limited so much so as WHEN the engine ECU knows how to start limiting the boost level as RPM rises with WOT. Intake manifold pressure sensor...??

    Re-acceleration downshift delay....

Does the CX-7 sometimes "hesitate" when you try to return to acceleration...?? Since about 2002 all Toyota and Lexus FWD and F/awd vehicles equipped with DBW, along with many other vehicles of asian manufacture, seem to exhibit this symptom in certain reasonably rare circumstances. You're...

    Stupid Question number 2

No, blowing down would draw relatively cool air from the standard intake and COOL the compressed atmosphere within the inetrcooler while simultaneously forcing the HOT engine heat downward and away from the intercooler. As it is currently with no intercooler "forced" airflow due to forward...

    Boost limiting.

How does the CX-7 engine control ECU "know" when maximum boost has been reached and start opening/"cracking" the wastegate open..?? Anyone know..??

    Foolish of me....

Maybe some of you owner/drivers can tell me... When on the highway and using cruise control consistently how often do you see the CC "requiring" boost.
  11. W

    Foolish of me....

Yes, the fact that you can externally COMPRESS (at least partially) and then COOL the airflow entering the engine offers a huge advantage......WHEN BOOST IS REQUIRED. The problem is that OFF-BOOST the engine efficiency is so severely derated/detuned it would be better if the turbo wasn't...

    Foolish of me....

First, in test driving the RDX and the CX-7 I found very hard to stay out of boost range, even the slightest level of acceleration required and the boost comes up. And having driven a Prius on the highway the display makes it VERY obvious when it transitions to boost, brings in the battery for...

    Foolish of me....

No, I'm just curious, as an EASY experiment, what the FE would be if boost could be fully avoided during an extended constant speed drive on the freeway.

    Foolish of me....

It occurred to me... Has anyone owning a CX-7 already wired the wastegate open to see what the resulting FE improvement might be/is.... I know that this would result in a significant reduction in the power band but for constant speed, relatively constant speed, highway cruising it wouldn't be...
  15. W

    Anyone interested..??

Under my "plan", with the wastegate "wired" open, the peak power would be reduced. The experiment is to find out how much the FE would improve without lowering the power band all that much.
