I have felt your exact feelings before, my Speed is in near the same condition (beginning to rust, oil leaks, etc). But it starts and runs everyday, and it still blasts up mountains... Just keep the fluids topped off and take it one project at a time as previous posters have mentioned.

I consider it in excellent condition. No cracks. Threads could use a cleaning but otherwise look great... I bought this off another forum member a while back to replace the one in my car but I have decided not to go through with the project. It is just collecting dust and I figure someone else...
