    2003 Protege5

I'm selling my 2003 Protege5. $5200 or make an offer. I purchased the car new in January of 2004, so I'm the only owner. It's vivid yellow and completely stock. The car has 86,000 miles on it. It will come with 2 bike mounts for the roof rack, a nose mask, and cargo tray. It has...

What Tires Come Stock On a 03' P5

The stock Dunlops actually had pretty decent dry grip from what I could tell. After about 10k miles, though, the wet traction was just awful. I managed to get about 27k miles on them before giving up and getting new tires because I knew I'd be in a world of hurt to use the Dunlops over another...

    Tire Mileage

I'm at 18k miles on my stock tires and they look fine, but I'm going to replace them as soon as I can. They're terrible with more than just a bit of rain, and if there's a bit of snow or ice on the road they're even worse.

    Better milage mods anyone ???

It's really interesting seeing all the varying mileages everyone gets out of their P5. I know that I usually get about 27mpg. I can drive like a maniac, drive really slow, accelerate fast, slow... whatever. I still get around 27mpg. I was a bit disappointed at first, but I guess I've dealt...

    madison ppl

It would be pretty cool to be able to meet up with everyone. I can really only do a meetup during the day on the weekends, though. I've got a newborn at home, so my weekdays after work get pretty busy.

Tricks for getting off stuck oil filter?

I bought a Craftsman oil filter wrench. It hooks onto a socket wrench. It self tightens as you turn the wrench. Looks like a claw. The only problem is that it's fairly hard to maneuver considering the small amount of space there is by the oil filter. But, once you get that wrench to hook...

    Attn: Yellow protege owners

I've been lucky enough to not hit any birds, but my car does seem to get more bird poop on it than other cars in the parking ramp where I work. Maybe the yellow means "bathroom" to birds?

    2nd gear shift

Yep, it is! I haven't noticed the 2nd gear problem in awhile because it's too warm out. Now the only issues I have are that it's sometimes hard to get the transmission to engage into 1st gear and reverse.

Prior to P5s, what did you drive?

1999 Chevy Prism -- Still have... thank goodness it's mostly a Toyota! 1985 Dodge Omni GLH -- given back to my bro-in-law

How the heck do you remove the oil filter?

Who knows about the whole Fram thing? I've used Fram filters for years on my other cars without any issues. Of course, on the Protege, I'm only putting on Mazda OEM filters and Mobil1!

How the heck do you remove the oil filter?

Pulling that filter off the first time was a real pain in the butt. I got a self-tightening filter wrench from Sears. Got it off in about 20 minutes. The next time should be much easier.
