When I pull away from a dead stop sometimes I hear a sort of grinding noise from the front of the car - any ideas? I can't determine if it is from the motor, trans or front brakes. thanks pjh

Yes I checked and I can not go from 5th to reverse - have to go around a stop or as you call lockout. no lemon law in Canada 1) I would ask dealer to fix again in "writing" 2) If no satisfaction them ask to have a meeting with the dealers "area Mazda rep" 3) If no sucess - check your manual -...

Again I ask - why would you want to go from 5th to reverse? Anyway - with my Miata's problem many owners had already tried for a fix with no luck. I contacted Mazda Canada myself and that was a waste of time. The car was not under warranty - however it was a know defect of the crank shaft...

Thanks for the explanation - that's what I assumed it was. Have to tell you, I have been driving a standard for near 40 years and have never tried to shift from 5th to reverse. Can't tell you if my 5 'lockout' works or not

I am in Ontario Had a broken crank on my 90 Miata (a know problem that was fixed by a new crank design mid-91) Regret had no luck with Mazda - bit the bullet and had repair myself (at an independent) Sorry - do not mean to seem stupid but what is this lockout? I have a 5spd P5.
