"Mica" is the metal flake in the base coat. Kinda' like this dictionary definition: a shiny silicate mineral with a layered structure, found as minute scales in granite and other rocks, or as crystals.

Mica colors are traditional 2-step (base coat/clear coat) paint jobs. The other colors Mazda offers are 3 step (an extra pearlescent or tinted clear on the top) and therefore are more costly.

If you're not that knowledgeable about engines (particularly diesels), I would look for a better shop to take it to. You could waste a lot of time (and money) trying to sort it out yourself.

Well your OCD couldn't be too bad if it took you three years to notice this! I'd just chalk it up to supply chain idiosyncrasies and move on.

Have any dealer run your VIN through his parts software and it will spit out the correct P/N. Simple!
