Thanks to all who responded. This is a reputable mechanic, however I believe it is time I invested in some jack stands, tools and handled all fluid changes myself. You guys rock.

This is our second CX-9 (previously owned a 2008) and both had a creaking noise coming from the shifter knob bracket. It is most noticeable in cold or humid weather. Anyone else have this issue? Any known fixes?

It was a constant growling or whining noise that started at around 30-35 mph and varied directly with speed. It was pretty easily diagnosed as bad wheel bearings on the back left drive wheel. $500 to replace.

It was along the bottom of the engine block. There was 6-8" of oil seepage. Very noticeable once it was up on the hoist. The trade in was $7,000, which was a reflection of the necessary repairs and higher mileage (not to mention general wear and tear).

It was not the differential that was leaking, but rather from the bottom of the engine block. They would have to remove the engine to fix the leak. 12 labor hour estimate. Suggested the water pump be done at the same time, plus the two drive belts, the right rear wheel bearing and other fluid...

We had it replaced under warranty on our 2008 a few years ago. I believe there is a TSB out there for it.
