Thanks for the quick reply man :) The battery is in front, the power runs on the driver side under the edge of the carpet, the front RCA and rear speaker level input run on the passenger side, crossing through my rear seat to the driver side of the trunk where the amp and rear converter are...

I got my Alpine 2554 amp installed at a local Car audio shop. I'm using it just to power my full range speakers, no subs or anything. I'm using the stock radio with line out converters, one of which is situated right behind the glovebox. Problem is I can hear my engine through the speakers...

Yeah I know there is no amp in the car, I meant does the stock HU have a built-in amp, considering how little power it makes? Is the power being sent to the speakers comparable to the signal of an RCA pre-out signal on an aftermarket HU ?

Does anyone know if the stock HU In my 2003 ES is amplified ?

I drove an ecotec (2.2 DOHC 4, the new engine), and I thought it blew the Mazda FS 2.0 out of the water for acceleration. The rest of the Cavalier sucks, but the Ecotec feels a lot torquier than the Mazda engine, and it's surprinsingly quiet. I'd think in a straight line the cavalier would...

Do theses converters actually do anything more than tap the postive/negative wires into the inside/outside conductors of the RCA connector though? I've seen Male RCA connectors with shielded pair coming out of the back at radioshack for like 6$ each... For 10$ you can get 15m of 16 guage wire...

I just got an awesome score from a friend of my brother's, who just bought a used car that had an alpine 3554 amp in it. He allready had an amp, subs and the such so I got it off of him for 40$! The good news: 50W RMS x 4, exactly what I wanted, much cheaper than I expected! The bad news...

Apparently you can get a marginally better 1/4 mile time just by pulling a few fuses(radio, headlights ect), so I'd imagine that pulling down 30 - 40 amps out for your system will slow you down very noticably.

What do you think of US acoustic amps? Like theses They seem like good value. I'm not really trying to build a system, to tell you the truth. I'd probably be just as happy with only an aftermarket HU powering my 4 speakers, but I don't want to draw the attention of thieves so it makes sense...

It's not just the weight though, the more battery power you use, the more load you put on your engine via the alternator, and it can actually be a fair share, maybe as much as 5-6 lbs-ft of torque gone througout the powerband depending on your setup.

Or realize you can snap the tweeter off ;)
