Ok sorry for the delay on updating this thread. While I was out of town our other vehicle was totalled in an accident. I wasn't about to possibly render our one running vehicle undrivable by messing with a shady looking drain plug so had to wait until we got that all sorted out.
I went ahead...
I certainly will, I appreciate everyone's time weighing in on this. Was out of town last weekend and I'm out of town camping in a remote area all next week, so I'm inclined to leave well enough alone until I get back and can tolerate being without a vehicle for a few days if it comes to that...
Well for a plan of action I guess I'm going to sleep on it a few days. Heading out of town for the weekend in a few hours so not going to do anything until next week.

Thank you all for the replies. It's definitely avg mpg that have been noticing. It's possible it is a temp thing as here in WI the temperature changes a lot throughout the day. I'll have to keep a log starting with my next fill.
Thank you for the replies so far. Interesting that no one else...
Picked up a new CX-5 in late Feb and one curious thing I have noticed is that the avg gas mileage reported on the dash seems to decrease every time I park. For example I take a half hour trip and when I reach my destination the mpg might read 28.4. I park and 8 hours later come back to my car...
