I had an 06 GT and it was definitely a required upgrade for me. There's no faceplate with the MP3 changer. It uses the stock faceplate. The only thing extra that it came with was the "MP3" sticker that you can put over CD emblem to show you have MP3 support.

Correct. This just adds MP3 CD support over the stock model. I found it a worthy addition since I could never get an order for the AUX input mod. Installation is a breeze as it's the same dimensions as the original unit.
