Swapping a US Mazda6 CMU with one from another country?

There are plenty on eBay here in the US. Just bought one from Texas that came out of a 2020 CX-5 and put it in my 2018 CX-9. All the GEN 65 CMUs should be compatible. Newer units reportedly have better hardware.

    CX-9 USB issues

Replaced the CMU with the one that came out of the 2020 CX-5 and all is working perfectly now with CarPlay and USB hub. Updated firmware to 74.00.311A as well.

    CX-9 USB issues

Dealer says it is a bad CMU causing the issue. They wanted $1400 for a new one. I found one out of a 2020 CX-5 for less than $200 (several revisions newer than the one that came with the vehicle.) I’m going to swap it and see what happens. If all is good I’ll take it to the dealer and have them...

    CX-9 USB issues

Update: I removed the screen and checked the connections on the back of the CMU head unit. All connectors were properly seated. Either this is a problem with the head unit itself (hardware or software) or the wiring harness between the hub and the head unit has become compromised. I have an...

    Identifying engine bolt

I think I did remove the hose to make room, if I recall correctly. I ended up buying this bolt. The head size is bigger but the bolt is the perfect length and thread pitch. (1) M6-1.0 x 16 or M6x16 6mm x 16mm J.I.S. Small Head Hex Bolt 10.9 Zinc | eBay

    CX-9 USB issues

Our Android Auto and Car Play stopped working recently on our 18 CX-9 (along with NAV and USB data), although USB charging still works. I assumed it was a bad hub. I bought a new genuine hub and replaced it. Unfortunately it didn't. When I go into the diagnostics menu, it shows HUB1 as <off>. Is...

    2018 CX-9 Overheating

You would think that Mazda would want to offer an incentive to buy their products, being that they are a small company. Service advisor told me that he had another customer with an engine that was just past the 60k powertrain warranty, and Mazda was giving him a difficult time with covering the...

    2018 CX-9 Overheating

Yes, me too. Despite my initial skepticism of GEICO, they've pulled through and saved me from a $6,000+ repair bill.

    2018 CX-9 Overheating

UPDATE: Cylinder head not resuable because it has evidence of cracking. Brand new Mazda factory cylinder head being replaced. Technicians checked the bottom half of the engine and pulled the oil pan, no evidence of any contamination or metal flakes in the oil. GEICO picking up the tab for all of...

    2018 CX-9 Overheating

No it covers gaskets. Dealer wanted to replace the entire head without further diagnosis because of the likelihood of future issues and $200 price difference as opposed to teardown. GEICO wants tull tear down of the head before anything else happens, couldn’t care less about $200 price...

    2018 CX-9 Overheating

I do as well. Alternative is to put the old head back on with a new gasket, if no cracking present and it is within spec, and sell or trade the vehicle.

    2018 CX-9 Overheating

Correct, if the dealer notices any visible cracking upon removal, they will let everyone know. Have to say, I'm kind of disappointed with GEICO. It's supposed to be the equivalent of a manufacturer's warranty. GEICO requires the customer to play for all "diagnosis" fees, but the problem has...

Dealer says they are going to examine head closely once removed and will let me know if any evidence of cracking.
