My first guess was that it was from the wiper blades, but when I turned them on - they didn't affect the noise ... I did a little more experimenting last night as I drove home, from work And as I discovered before ... I can get the sound to stop by opening the sunroof by having only the back...

I completely agree! But if you'd like to save a little money go with last the 2003 model (... on the mp5 vs the new 3 hatchback - the mp5 was a slightly bigger rear trunk space - but the new 3 has much nicer features)! I have a mp5 but after test driving the new 3 I wish I had it instead ...
