I had the same problem one second it was fine the next it was bad changed my spark plugs, packs and wires and problem solved.

Just adding my 2 cents, have you replaced your coil packs recently? Because i have had the problem you speak of and replaced coil packs and all was well.

Well in this particular case its emissions. I cant see how people can complain about that, when it comes to safety I would be great full if someone pointed out something i missed. But all the time i see cars with stickers that say the car faild and they drive them anyway.

I am sure its not the safety inspection people complain about, its failing a state inspection due to failing emissions.

Tearing the whole center console and carpet up is a good idea trying to find a replacement part for that might become tricky since it is such a small part and the dealership probably wants you to pay 50 dollars for such a small part. Yea you are missing the screw that connects those parts together. I will take another look and snap some photos so you can get a better look. look around in there you may be able to find the piece you are missing.

I cant really tell from your picture but from what i can see i would say its this piece? But in one of your pictures it looks like its there but i cant tell for sure.
