When my wife bought her 2014 CX5, the sales guy warned her that she would notice strange smells during the first break-in miles for the same reason NinjaNoises noted. They did go away.

It looks like it was something like that (something stuck between the shield and disc) because the front end has been noise-free for over a month and a half now. We just got notified by the dealer that the new windshield came in, so that took over two months.

We took the car to a different dealer and the first "fix" didn't work, a brake adjustment and lubrication of one of the rear wheels. Took it back yesterday and now it looks like the problem is gone, after they disassembled and reassembled the hardware for all four wheels. They didn't find any...

Makes sense. Their first explanation was that there could be some superficial rust (on the brakes?) after having been parked at the dock after shipment for who knows how long.

My wife (the car is actually hers, I drive a 328i coupe) took it in to the dealer today. They verified the noise, it was loud and clear. They'll keep the car during the week to inspect it and give her a loaner in the meantime.
