Just occurred to me that someone else had this same problem as you on another forum. Turned out his oil cooler had cracked and he would only lose oil while driving. It was hard to detect cause there would never be any oil on the ground. It either cracked or the gasket had blown. Check oil cooler...

It probably falls within a window that Mazda Corp calls normal but you and I know when the Speed is running right it consumes next to no oil. I cant tell you how to handle the dealer but all makes have a policy (a window that is acceptable) of oil consumption. Do you use 5W-40 or 5W-30?

Better get the car checked pronto. Could be a gas leak. When was the last time you replaced your battery. An old weak battery would cause a ton of problems.

Here the thing...the MS3 calls for 5W-30. I run 5W-40 because of the labrynth design of the bearing in the turbo. Basically the lighter the oil the more likely it is to leak past the turbo seals. You are more likely to get smoking from the turbo with 5W-20 and a shortened turbo life. So yes get...

Pretty rare problem. If you have an after market intake (Cobb,etc) make sure your hose clamp is not rubbing the harness on the battery box. If so it will chew thru the harness and cause all kinds of weird ECU related failures. I can provide a pix if needed. Sounds like the ECU is not triggering...
