i have been tweaking my overall system in my mp3 for a while and decided to put new crossovers on ym 6x9s to lower the responsive frequency...but i cant find the darn crossovers...anyone ever located them and removed them/changed them out. Thanx for the help

i thought all that was in the radio...the crossovers and s***....idont think we have an actuall crossover that is seperate from the radio.,.anyone else no anything?

The rear speakers have a small passive cross over "hanging" on them.Is this what your lookig for?Otherwise the head unit also has a built it cross network.
Trying to help!:D

There is no crossover for the woofer of the 6x9 just the tweeter which is simply a capacitor on the speaker. The woofer if memory serves is full range. Basicly it will natural role off with higher notes so need for one their. This is common on inexpensive coaxles.

ok let me reiterate.....There is a cross-over on the 6x9s...not an internal deck one..but an external compenent level one. i did notice the semi-crude looking coil inductors that are directly connected to the posts on the 6x9s....but if that is the corssovers....w0w...cause ill be damne dif thats not the smallest rossover contorl ive ever seen in my life. Thanx for all the help and Ill keep looking.

What imn looking at is definately a wire wound inductor connected tot he cone...but I cant tell where it is connected too..either the tweets or the woofer cone... I can tell you almost with certainty that there is a filter on the woofer...I know from experience that 9 in cones can achieve much deeper bass than is being allowed by the Excelon Dual Mag 6x9 unit. i installed basic Kenwood 7inch cone 2 ways in a Dodge Stealth earlier this week and that cone reached a lower octave than the 6x9 did....and the 6x9 is made with 3x the quality of standard Kenwood cones. I actually do belive that what im looking at attached to the 6x9 is indeed a high pass filter that was sautered on mabey to save Kenwood the cost of external, boxed crossovers that are standard with their Dual Mag Series ( the kind that came with the mp3). Im just damn near afraid to remove it though...because what it its not =-D....Dual Mag series Speakers arent cheap

From my expeirence only kenwood componenets have out board crossovers. The coaxles never have. I have personaly stripped my entire car twice. I have never even seen a tiny in line capacitor just the small cap on the tweeter leads attached to the basket. I didn't notice a lot of bass from mine either but I also never saw a cap or crossover network of any kind in the car. Including under or on the rear deck.

Hrmm.......Ill just have to keep looking tomarrow =-D....It just driving my nuts...because i want my 6x9s to handle their full capabilities on the frequency chart so that i can take some of the higher freq bass off my 12's and increase resonant clarity....just so frustrating...but you knwo all about frustrating you an installer too =-]

Are you looking for an outboard cap or crossover or one mounted to the basket?

If you think their is one in the car some where. run new wires directly from the radio to the speakers and see if their is a difference.

Im looking for any type of high pass filter...anywhere. only problem is i have a very large amount of wires running through my sideboards and dont have room for any more...thats why i have not just run new wires..I know 100% that the low freqs are being attenuated...I just dont know form what source.....mabey the onboard cap attached to the speaker...or elsewhere on the line.

nekrawulf,I agrre the excelons are pretty nice but do seem a bit light on bass response! The cross network hanging on the basket is there on mine (6x9's)I replaced my fronts with components, and threw the old one in my nieces focus(yuk), so I don't remember about them.I'm gonna pull the 6x9s out tommorow to get a better look to see if its just for the mid/tweeter or full speaker, and install my other amp(kacx501f excelon) for the in car speakers.I'll probabley post on sun. to let you know what I found.
