Tranny gears SHOT?

Ok, so my car has been at the dealer's since MONDAY because of it randomly locking me out of 2nd gear, and the quick griding noise on a fast shift to third.

I assumed it was the synchros.

However, they told me that they ordered new GEARS, and that the GEARS were totally shot. Supposedly the synchros are fine. This makes NO sense to me, as the gears are always interlocked. How could they wear down???

i'm thinking........something that has to do with oil viscosity? maybe they screwed up when they made the car and put the wrong type of oil into the trans on all the MP3's......

i dunno......as soon as i buy a new car i'm shoving redline MTL into it asap :)!!

very strange how all these ppl are having these problems with the trans.......I have the same trans in my 93' Protege and it doesn't have any problems (5th gear synchro starting to wear out, but its got 145k on it!)

dont just report this to your dealer report it to mazda directly then all those with the same issue can also call and then they put out a bulliten on it. If you only deal with a dealer Mazda never realy has to adress the problem other then on a case by case basis. Some of those people are getting screwed and the dealers are just blaiming them.

How do I go about this? What do I report?

If the 93 has a type G, then yes.
Redline you can get at any quality auto parts store. AMSOIL and Mobil 1 tranny fluid are also great. Call your local stores for availability

Go to mazda usa website they have a number there and tell them tha you need to make a complaint becuase you believe that the tranny malfunctioned and died.

Get the persons name and extension you talk to and tell everyone else this way anyone with the same problem can report it to one person and then if that person says I've never heard of this they are full of s*** and you can call them on it.

This is exactly what I did with the rear sway bar bushings and after enough people complaint mazda issued a repair bulliten to dealers to fix it.

tranny went out to

since day one my mp3 was grinding from 2nd to 3rd on fast shifts so i thought it was juet the way i drove until my friend told me that this wasnt the case so about 10 months went by barely hitting my 20k i was at a stop sign and went forward and as i went on a normal shift at 3k from 1 to 2 it just staled on me. 2nd was in neutral and there was no way to get it to 1 or any other gear, only thing to do to keep it from staling when i turned to key was to hold the clutch down all the way and burn it up until i had enough rpms to move the car while it was stuck in 2nd in neutral. so i drove all the way home in 2nd at 2k for about 15 miles. the next day i call the dealer ship and they send a tow truck to pick my ride up and it stayed with them for about 2 weeks. they gave me a rental car free of charge and asked me if anyone else had driven the car and i said nope. well they said the condition of my car was because of hard shifing at high rpms. well they fixed the tranny under warranty, total damage was 2700$ u.s. couldnt believe it so nothing came out of my pocket exept for gas for the rental and they gave me a regular ex protege. a nasty marroon.

$2700??? A new tranny costs less than THAT!

What's the exact product code, etc I need of Redline for my mp3?
Look in the back of the manual for the fluid specs. It will be listed there.

ok... this is getting to be complete bulls***... more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more and more people are having these damn tranny problems... and i just cant believe that the dealerships arent acknowledging that this is a problem... Ive ranted and raved about this topic atleast 2-3 times on this board alone... and im just about done... this week im calling mazda and if they dont do something about it within 2 weeks im filling a lawsuit against them. I've already had a meeting w/ my lawyer and I DO have grounds for a case. I have been screwed over and over by the dealership and (from what they tell me) mazda north america as well... however, if i call directly and do not get some sort of acceptable solution, I am going to court... I believe that everyone else should do the same. I also do agree with the idea of getting one persons name and extension, posting it on this board, and having everyone call that person. That way maybe something will get done. Anyway.. heres the good news:

I GOT MY CAR BACK! :D :D :D

Well I've got 33,000 on mine. My tranny still works... so far. But it seems to be making alot more noise lately. I'm getting a whining noise that seems to be coming from the tranny under acceleration. I also seem to be hearing alot more backlash. Did ya'll excperience these sounds befor yours bit the dust. Or is it a normal thing and I just never noticed? whatcha think?

I also recently installed the kart boy shift bushing.

The whining is likely your shifter bushing.

Everoyne else: I won't get a chance to call mazda until FRIDAY (by which time i SHOULD have my car back), so remind me if you talk to me fri. :-)

i have an appointment with the mazda northamerica technition and they said they are gonna send an engineer??? since i already had my sychros replaced twice. they said they cant fix it again untill the mazda rep takes a look at it. latley my gears arent grinding as bad for some reason. they use to grind alot now that i made the apointment with the dealer its not doin it as bad. i also just put my snowtires on to pass inspection if that could have anything to do with it??? i doubt it though. hopefully i get some good answers if not ill be on the phone bitchin to mazda NA!!
