2016 CX-5 Touring, CEL lit

:
2016 CX-5 Touring AWD
2019 CX-5 Reserve AWD
16 Touring, 35K on odo. Today the CEL is on, car is running fine. No warnings in the Warnings screen.
Any ideas?

Don't have a code reader but will probably invest in one.

Take it to your local Autozone/AdvanceAuto, etc. They'll read the codes for free.

My money's on low blinker fluid.

In all seriousness, get yourself a $25 scanner on Amazon to avoid this kind of guessing game.

Yes.
Since the car is running fine I'll order one from Amazon and see where that takes me.

Took it to autozone this morning. NO codes. Diagnostics said everything was fine.
Figured if it didn't go off I'd have to take it to the dealer for them to at least reset it.

Started the car, left autozone, made another stop, then started the car, drove to another
stop then restarted and the CEL was off.

Long story short - it was probably the gas cap. As soon as the light came on I unscrewed the cap and put it back on. I did not check to see if there were any clicks. It's possible the cap is wearing. The car just hit 7 yrs old.

CEL takes a while to go off. Not immediately.
Some vehicles have a separate warning for the gas cap.
Wish Mazda did. Probably would save people a lot of grief.

I know on my 16 sometimes the cap clicks tight with two clicks and other times I can sit there
tightening the cap and it clicks 7-8 times before the click stops.

There is a warning on the fuel cap...
"A loose cap may turn on check engine light"

Well, the CEL came back on yesterday afternoon. Car ran fine but this time there was a warning in the Warnings screen. "Engine System Malfunction". I got out and checked the gas cap. Previously I tightened it until the clicking stopped. This time I was able to click it 10 more times before it hit the stop. Went out this morning, drove it a couple miles, checked the cap, was able to click it 12 times.
Came back out, started the car and the CEL was off.

Defintely looking like a bad cap.
